If you want to study in medicine, just do it. A physician should have empathy and be willing to communicate with patients and their families. The current dark days of the physicians could last for 10 years. However, things would be resolved sooner or later. Besides, studying in medicine doesn’t mean you have to practice medicine. For instance, pharmaceutical physicians can research new drugs, creating brand-new ways to help stroke patients or seniors. The future is a broad and infinite way.

Motivation for Studying in Medicine:

Grandfather and father both worked at Taipower, and I was expected to follow their footsteps. Nonetheless, in my childhood, I love to raise snakes, turtles and mushrooms. Afterwards, I found interest in the life sciences by participating in biology camp held by Cheng-Gong Senior High School.

 

I was a former internal medicine physician in Taipei Mackay Memorial Hospital physician and a researcher in Veterans General Hospital. I originally choose to specialize in pediatrics, but during the hospital internship, my mother lived in Mackay and has unknown cause of disease in internal medicine, therefore, I spent more time trying to become familiar with medicine. Simultaneously, I just passed the national physicians examination. Consequently, I decided to choose my secondary expertise, Cardiology, as my occupation. Cardiology in Taiwan is ranked the fifth globally, which is why I’m extremely proud of.

 

I am an expert in hypertension, dyslipidemia, angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, chest pain, chest tightness, heart failure, palpitations, arrhythmia, and all the other diseases which needs no knives to solve heart-related disease. Due to the technology development, 70-80% heart-related problems may be solved by the rapid and safe Cardiology. This is the reason why cardiac surgery is difficult to flourish.

In ancient times, many girls enrolled in departments of medicine for their great academic performances, but they don’t wish to study medicine at all. I will absolutely respect my daughter’s aspiration.

 

Unforgettable Memories:

One day on a train, I met a diabetic man who was hypoglycemia shocked. I knew nothing about the condition of the man, so I only gave him first aid and reminded him to consume food and leave, being afraid of getting into trouble. This is because there was once a Mackay internship who rescued a patient who had a car accident. Unfortunately, the patient framed him up and asked for money. Afterwards, he waited for two years to get married because he had no money after the event.

 

Physicians Sweetness:

Many patients sent me gifts when I work in Chu-Shan. Thus, there was always a large quantity of bags of tea. Besides, my patients and I built meaningful relationships since I helped a lot and chatted with them wholeheartedly. During the 921 earthquake, the hospital I worked in turned into ruins. It was unforgettable that I and my colleagues dedicated ourselves together to go through the hard times.

Physician’s Bitterness

 

The tuition fee of medical school was high and kind of unaffordable. However, there are still microscopes and original textbooks to buy. Studying medicine from 18, it took 12 years to practice and become economy independent. The toughest phase is the residency, which was crucial and difficult. To be honest, a physician should weather get married before residency or get married after 30.
