Expectations for children:

Both children are not interested in medicine. Futhermore, he doesn't encourage his children to major in medicine due to the present working environment.

Unforgettable case:

It is hard for him to tell a specific case since there have been tens of thousands of patients. He finds it worthy and satisfying to cure his patients successfully. He feels proud that he can discover the things others cannot find out through his observance and diagnosis. On the other hand, he feels struggled that many patients aren't able to fight against their fate.

Doctor's sweeteness: The sweetest memory of every doctor is to cure their patients.

Doctor's bitterness: Lengthy training process, seven years in medical school, five-year residency, and three attending years. Now, there is PGY and 300- hour-per-year in-service training. Doctors spend most of their time caring for others' children. Looking back,Chieng hopes to have more connection with his children.

 

Views on the future of health care environment:

Although medical schools have increased from seven to twelve, they still lack human resources. Medical manpower has increased but is now unable to catch up with medical needs. He slightly criticized that one could not go to a doctor in the past because of high medical expenses. However, NHI is too convenient to receive medical treatment. Previous week chronic care centers bills was incredibly high. He thinks more medical school should be established due to the lack of human resources,raising the ubiquity of receiving health care.

 

Motivation of becoming a doctor:

Chieng grew up in Taipei's Wanhua District, having a inferior social and economic status. His initial goal is to be an engineer. The biggest motivation to become a doctor is because his classmates invited him to major in medicine. Most importantly, he could get a job after graduating from the university, sharing the economic burden with his family. Although unfamiliar to medicine, he was admitted to Zhongshan Medicine University. Therefore,he decided to major in medicine with an interest in medicine.

Doctor's encouragement:

When becoming a doctor, don't be restrained by others' pressure and have a strong belief. Cultivate an interest, enjoy the profession, and ponder how to solve the problem.
