The Beauty of the Grand Hotel ~~ Century-old golden dragon

Name: Century-old golden dragon   Name origin: Because this dragon existed among two centuries through legend of regime changes, in the beginning it was a stone dragon, and later on coated with gold, and became a golden dragon, therefore called “Century-old golden dragon”.

 

History, change:

In a hundred years ago at Japanese rule, Japanese government built Taiwan shrine at this place, and the stone dragon entwining in the shrine with mouth spurting water for everyone to wash hands, and representing a totem emblem of Japanese imperialism. After the recovery of Taiwan, it had been remaining unmoved among 1952 to 1956, it was until 1970, the Grand hotel was reconstructed to a fourteen-floor palace-style building the stone dragon also reconstructed to bronze then coated with a layer of 24k gold, its worth soared to becoming a treasure of Grand hotel.

 

Introduction:

We walked up to the second floor, came to a square, right in the middle we found this antique of Century-old golden dragon which had stayed there since the period of Japanese rule. This Japanese dragon is not gregarious here, because its distant relative, Chinese dragons are equipped with five claws, so you can see it is a loner here!! Actually, in the Tang dynasty when the intercourse between Japan and China was frequent, and Chinese dragon had only three claws then, while Japanese learnt Chinese culture, in the mean time learnt the dragon with three claws; it was before Chinese dragon evolved to four and five claws, Japan went into a closed-door policy! Therefore, Japanese dragon stayed with only three claws until nowadays.

 

Talking about being cocky, this golden dragon was really cocky, the wholly coated 24k gold body highlighted its extravagance and mighty, with dragon features of snake body, antlers, claws, scales and shrimp beards. The skylight window above the dragon was a bagua yinyang formation, while the dragon head lifted high and looking toward the sky.

 

The meaning to the hotel:

The Century-old golden dragon coated with 24k gold, is not only a totem emblem of Japanese rule, but also a guarding treasury of Jiang family, for the local Yuanshan residents, it represents a symbol of blessed land, for the Grand hotel staff, it represents an amulet for being capable of good restart after hard times.
