The source of the Grand Hotel~~ Emergency underpasses
There are two secret underpasses, in fact, those are evacuation passage ways, and completed when the hotel was refurbished in 1973, and has thirty plus years of history up to now. The two underpasses are respectively located on the east and west side of the hotel, with length of about 180 meters, and regular maintenance is conducted once every month. And we went to the west side tunnel, which leads all the way from B1 floor to Jiantan Park, the internal of the tunnel was winding and convolted, very difficult to go through, so some people almost stumbled and fell! |

At the entrance, there was a slide passage of about 10 meters, to facilitate persons with disabilities or disadvantaged for emergent escape, everyone wanted to use it to slip down, however because of security reasons, each one obediently took the stairs down. Next to the slide passage, there was a stairway of 86 stairs, after passing through the stairway, it became cement paved flat road, until reaching the exit, there were two metal doors, it should be Jiantan Park behind those doors, unfortunately, because of some factors, the doors can not be opened, but, we still heard the sound of passing cars and wind.
In the west side tunnel, there were four, five explosion-proof lamp with glass shade, light could be completely authentic, such that we won’t stumble while walking throght. The tunnel was constructed with composition of steel, cement and white cement, and the walls were uneven, with explosion proof, sound insulating effects, and provided with water drainage conduits to prevent water accumulation, presumably, a certain number of consideration were made for the construction. The tunnel had width of about 223 cm, height of about 210 cm, and 180 meters in length which led to our soured feet.

In the east side tunnel, there were a stairway of 75 stairs, without slide passage, and totally 178 meters in length, with 50 lamps, also winding down, takes about a minute from the entrance to exit. At the exit of both east and west side tunnel, all provided with stone walls of four or five miters high, the closed doors cannot be visible. At the entrance of both tunnels, there was a indication showing its capacity of containing 1,200 persons for self-use, and 2,612 persons for operating personnel, totally 2,612 persons for emergent evacuation use, the number was really impressive. Those two emergency underpasses were not designed for prominent people to use as asylum, and there was no any communication equipment, just a purely temporary escape tunnel, just that after the construction completed, never had a chance to come into handy, such that led to farfetched imagination and replicated baseless assertion.
