●Description of "Our Community":
Hsichou Township is located in the southernmost area of Changhua County, and between East Luo River and West Luo River. It was named Hsichou because it is the sandbar of a river. Hsichou Township, on the low-lying alluvial fan of Jhuoshuei River, is the third largest town in Changhua County. From its south, across Jhuoshuei River, is Yunlin County. In the early stage, Hsichou Sugar Factory used to be an important sugar refinery in Taiwan. During the Japanese occupancy, Cizi Canal, the first official Taiwanese canal and the second largest irrigation system of Changhua County, was manually dug to obtain water from Jhuoshuei River and to irrigate the entire southwest region of Changhua. Because of the fertile black soil on the riverbank of Jhuoshuei River, a variety of crops are produced, including the widely famous Jhuoshuei rice, Pearl guavas, and Malabar chestnuts. With rich soil and water, the people of Hsichou Township work hard to produce plenty of high-quality agricultural products.
●Summary of Our Project
From participating in the street parade of the school, to understanding the entirety of the cultural activity season, we have interviewed some local primary schools, middle schools, colleges, and other groups. We found that many people in this area love Hsichou dearly and have quietly devoted many efforts to it, which encourages us to promote the event even more. Through a questionnaire, we can listen to people’s perspectives of the local arts; besides, we can provide the survey outcome to the township hall. We hope that next year, the features of local arts will be more prominent in the culture activity season, and people of different ages will participate in the event. Hopefully, the beauty of Hsichou will be well known among people in other places!
●Problems We Had To Overcome:
1. The teacher has asked our team member Chung-chuan Chen to rewrite his interview report several times. Even in the practice of taking pictures, being a photographer, he still tried to be a part of pictures. With the teacher’s guidance, he finally could take good pictures and completed his interview report.
2. Most of us could not catch the main point when practicing for interviews. After repeated practice with on-campus teachers and long-term training, we were able to quickly catch the points in interviews. We did not have stage fright, nor did we have irrelevant questions.
3. In the beginning, we didn’t know what to do. Teacher Wan-ping Wu, of the township hall, helped contact the mayor of Hsichou Township and Teacher Liang-yi Chang, so that we could complete the interviews. We thank Teacher Wan-ping Wu for the big help!
4. When learning Dreamweaver, we encountered a bunch of programming codes and new functions that we did not understand. We practiced very hard during lunch breaks and on holidays. We are able to work with Dreamweaver now.
5. Our time was very tight. The members responsible for webpage production had other duties in the computer club. The computer teacher was too busy, so we asked another teacher, Teacher Ming-hua Lin, to assist us. These happenings almost prevented us from completing the project in time, so we worked during the winter break to catch up with the schedule. We thank Teacher Ming-hua Lin and Teacher Chun-hung Chen for instructing us. |
