Ming Dao University – Fashion Fantasy
Design Theme ~ Infuse Rural Elements into Fashion
Using “Fashion Fantasy” as the theme, we definitely want to add our extraordinary imagination to fashion dresses. Normally, on rustic Hsichou streets, no one would wear a bizarre dress. However, today, we are going to change the conservative atmosphere and give the townspeople a different feel.
Design Process ~ Witches of the fairy tales appear
In a big crowd, college girls from Min Dao University tell me the idea of a particularly stylish witch who came from their many childhood fairy tale books; they always wanted to be a witch. With such great opportunity, surely they want to introduce the “witch” to the fantasy theme. What a unique reason! But, the full loaded equipment on their dresses must make them tired. To make the ancient evil stereotype look fashionable, it requires great knowledge, even for a simple hat and dress. They have made many adjustments, so that they are able to present a vivid witch today. They are good at time management, since they only worked on it during leisure time, in order to not affect academic work. They happily share their experiences with the entire procedure including today’s event. If they have another chance, they certainly would show up again with another fashion style of their dreams.
Afterthoughts
After seeing so many amazing works, I can tell they must have overcome considerable difficulties, one after another, in the process, so that their dreams may come true. All their hard work was worthwhile. When I go back to school, I might start to take performance arts as well.
Ming Dao University – Splendid Carnival
Design Theme ~ Lightening Hsichou with Fashion
In the street parade of Hsichou Township, Ming Dao University gets the biggest team and most splendid works. Among them, most students, with fancy dresses, are from the Department of Fashion and Style at Ming Dao University. They show four themes in the parade: Splendid Carnival, Creative Symphony, Blooming Waltz, and Fashion Fantasy.
Design Process ~ Splendidly-gorgeous style and vividly-charming dresses
The sight looks gorgeous and dazzling with a group of forty or more witches. Everyone dresses differently. There are vampires, clowns, fairies, and many beautiful college girls in beautiful dresses. When they show up, it looks like a big role-playing convention. Their makeup is very attractive, and their dresses are well designed by students. We can see their dresses are made of cloth, from a close distance. The one I like the most is a clown played by a college girl. For the “Splendid Carnival” theme, she chooses to play a clown. She gets into trouble when making the dress, and pasting wrinkled paper onto it. She still overcomes it under the pressure of time. For her, it is fun being a part of the parade, and her goal is certainly to win the first place in the performance. She hopes to contribute in the Hsichou Art Street Parade with what she has learned.
Afterthoughts
After enjoying their performance, I discovered their excellence. Makeup was the top attraction of the parade. The fine makeup was very vivid and charming, and the dresses were designed and created by students. I am proud of them that they are willing to contribute to rural areas to add an arts’ atmosphere to Hsichou Township.
Ming Dao University – Blooming Waltz
Design Theme ~ Blooming Waltz
There are 21 groups participating in the Hsichou Township Street Parade, and four of them are from Ming Dao University. Those from Ming Dao University are teachers and students of the Fashion and Style Department. They grab everyone’s attention when getting off the coaches since their dresses and styles are so attractive that no one can look away from them. Each group has a different theme and the way they perform is different too. We have been assigned to interview the second group, “Blooming Waltz”.
Design Process ~ Making dresses with focus and diligence
The lead teacher of Ming Dao University says that their students of the department have spent lots of time and made lots of efforts for the parade. There are even more students who wanted to join; however some did not come due to health reasons. The teacher feels pity for them and will have them come if there is another chance. The teacher is very satisfied with the dresses in the parade, which they have put so much effort into. Every dress is perfect and the best in their eyes. The students of the Fashion and Style Department say that even though the parade is tiring and the dresses they made might not be perfect yet, they are very glad to dress up in their own personally made dresses, to perform for the people in the parade. For the “Blooming Waltz” theme, the students haven’t slept for many days, in order to make the dresses. They also took many days off from school.
Afterthoughts
The process of interviewing Ming Dao University students is the most tiring work of all. We had to know which students belonged to which team, to avoid conflicts in the interview schedules. When we interviewed teachers, they were walking along with the parade, so we had to follow them all the way for the interviews. Fortunately, we still finished the interviews smoothly. We appreciate the lead teacher and students of Ming Dao University for making the interview a success.
Min Dao University – Creative Symphony and Freak Show
Design Theme ~ Creative Symphony
It is the first time the students of Ming Dao University participate in the Art Street Parade. They perform in a walking show. The theme of this group is “Creative Symphony”. They decorate their glittering dresses with readily available props from everyday life. Every one is a creative innovation.
Design Process ~ Diverse creativity brings fashion to the simple village
Their designs are special, and styles are unique. For example, someone pastes the popular dollar bills all around a dress, someone wears a ghost mask, someone dresses as a girl which is very funny and attractive, and someone uses discarded optical disks to build the posture of a “peacock spreading its tail”. These were results of much overnight work. In order to support this local activity, they specially sent many teachers and students to Hsichou communities and schools to help with fashion design related affairs, so that all communities and schools could show the best modeling in the Art Street Parade. The passion of serving local communities and the professionalism of teachers and students from this department is praised and affirmed by everyone.
Afterthoughts
In the interview, I felt their clothing designs were very pretty, creative, and in touch with energy conservation and carbon reduction. All dresses were created by the students’ own hands, and were very special. They are such an excellent team. Everyone was confident when they entered the field. In the performance, they dressed in perfectly handmade clothes, and showed off their work to people, like professional models. They added fashion style to simple village life. All people were given very deep impressions.
