Visit NTSO

Making Thank-You Card

Writer: Yan-Ming Liao, Past Master

We were going to visit National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra. The teacher had told us that there would be a guide for us. To thank her for providing such a good resource and environment for music lovers, we decided to make thank-you card for the guide. We started to get the paper and draw with color pens. We also thought about the content of the card. Finally, we made the card and laminated it. We hoped that the people in National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra would love it.

National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra (NTSO) is the oldest orchestra in Taiwan. It was founded in Taipei in 1945. The current address of NTSO is No.738-2, Zhongzheng Rd., Wufeng Dist., Taichung City 413, Taiwan(R.O.C). It was under the governance of the Council for Cultural Affairs, Executive Yuan (now the Ministry of Culture), and renamed as "National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra's concert hall was opened in 2002. It had temporarily took over the Zhong-Xing Hall in Taichung from March, 2007 to December, 2011.

History

The ancestor of NTSO is the orchestra of the Public Service Association of Imperial Subjects under the rein of the Japanese government. The orchestra was disbanded after the second world war when many Japanese went back to Japan. The conductor, Cheng-Jia Wu, gathered the old members and formed "Xing Ya Orchestra" under the privately run organization "Taiwan Music Occupation Union" Later, the Taipei City government, by the time when San-Lian Wu was the major, took over the orchestra and named it "Taipei Symphony Orchestra" Also in the same year, under the lead of Professor Ji-Kun Cai, the orchestra was reassigned to the charge of Taiwan Provincial Garrison Command. After Professor Ji-Kun Cai was named the leader, the orchestra was soon put under Taiwan Provincial Administrative Executive Office. The founding father of the orchestra, Mr. Ji-Kun Cai, along with other leaders such as Mr. Cui-Lun Dai, Mr. Wei-Liang Shi and Mr. Cheng-Xiong Chen were professors of music departments. Leaders such as Mr. Xi-Qi Wang (who played the trumpet), Mr. Han-Jin Deng (who played the cello), and Mr. Xuan-Yong Liu (who played the trombone) were originally the orchestra members.

Reflection

Writer: You Wu, Powerful Finger

After the search of the information about National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, I learned that it is located in Wufeng District, Taichung County. There is a lot of history about the orchestra. How lucky we are that we could participate in the activity. Thanks to the teachers who organize the special activity. We should work harder. I am looking forward to the coming of the trip......Tour Record
