Picture Book Powerpoint

We took a scan of the picture books used during the big brother/sister storytelling event, then used Powerpoint to turn it into an animation. After we turned to books into animations, it was interesting to find out that Powerpoint could be used in this way!

Gender Equality Video Making and Production

In order to make the storytelling activity more fun, we made a gender equality video. Before filming, everyone worked together to think of a script and rehearse before we filmed for real. We didn't realize that making a video involved so much work – fliming, editing, and adding sound effects. It was really a special experience!

Drawing a Mind Map

During the storytelling event, apart from the gender equality, there were also other self-identity themes. We each drew a picture of ourselves called "How Others See Me" and stuck them to the walls for all the young students to see.

Storytelling Rehearsal

In order to hold a successful event, you must practice a lot. Before the storytelling event, we rehearsed over and over what we would do. Everyone rehearsed properly and got familiar with the whole process of the event. Hopefully the event will run smoothly!

Storytelling Event

Finally it was time for the storytelling event! Watching the younger students as they watched the presentations and videos laughing and smiling was really wonderful for us. After doing it a few times, we got better and better. We were able to naturally interact with the students and each gained a few fans!

Watching the "Hope for Reading" Video with the Whole School

At lunchtime, the whole school watched the "Hope for Reading" video together. After watching the video, we asked the whole school to join in a second-hand book collection. We hope that our classmates can bring old books to school so that we can give them new lives.

Book Card Design

We used Photoimpact to create a travel book card and then sent it for printing. We hope that these book cards can help the students who are donating books to share the we they feel about the book. We put the cards inside the donating books, and hope that it will be a nice surprise for whoever buys the books!

Promoting Small Small Bookshop at the School Assembly

This morning we used the school assembly time to promote the Small Small Bookshop and our second-hand book collection in front of the whole school. We were also looking for volunteers to help out selling books. In addition to promoting our activity, we also recommended that the students apply for a library card at the local library. We hope that once we start collecting books, the whole computer classroom will end up overflowing with books!

Preparing for the Second-Hand Book Sale

While promoting our second-hand book sale, we managed to collect over 2000 books in just under a week! The whole computer room now looked like a bookstore! We cleaned up these second-hand books, then added price tags and boxed them up. It was hard work to organize these books each day, but we were excited at the prospect of seeing these books find new lives at the sale!

Community Second-Hand Book Sale

On December 23rd 2012, we organized the second-hand book sale at the Yonghe District Library. Before 10a.m. there were already a great number of people visiting to buy books. The promotion team took advantage of this opportunity, and dressed in cute Santa costumes, walked around the nearby streets to encourage people to visit the sale. The activity went very well and finished in the afternoon.

School Second-Hand Book Sale

After the second-hand book sale, we still had many books that we didn't sell. So we decided to hold another sale in-school. Everyone had to take turns at break time to go to the library and sell books. In order to allow students to readily find the books that they would like, we color coordinated them in order of genre and age level.
