Luke’s Tree

  Luke’s Tree by Chi-lian Hong
Our teacher gathered us together this morning, in the audio-visual room, to practice this afternoon’s presentation. Our teacher said that the presentation would be the final step in our project as we shared our research project with others. During our break, we made a welcome poster for Luke. We also got our signature cards ready to hang on the tree we had made for Luke.
After putting up all the things necessary for the presentation, we were looking forward to it. Time passed by very quickly. It was already afternoon. On entering the audio-visual room, I saw teachers getting things ready for the presentation. I started to get nervous, although I was anxious to share my thoughts with everyone at school. First, my teacher Jessie introduced the topic of Cyberfair project and gave a brief introduction on the research. Then it was my turn. I was so nervous that I talked very fast. I was worried about making mistakes. Fortunately, I made it to the end smoothly. After walking down from the stage, I breathed a sigh of relief.

After our presentation, our teacher Winnie handed out a small card to every student at school to write a message of gratitude on. Some of us helped the first and second graders with their cards. Then we put all the cards on Luke’s Tree as its leaves. The tree was very beautiful after leaves were added to its bare trunk and branches. It was a special tree with messages of gratitude.

I felt good that our presentation was over. All of the students at my school knew Luke better after our research. We were happy to help them learn more about Luke and his philosophy of life. He has helped us quietly with our English education. Many students had not been aware of this. Although I am a child and limited in my ability to help, one thing I can do is share our results with others. I’ve learned a lot through this project, especially the importance of gratitude. I’m happy to have participated in so many activities during the whole process.
