Visiting Bookstores

The Creator

I like to live life in my own way. I love books so I opened a bookstore near to my home. During the process of opening a bookstore, all of my friends tried to stop me because it is a tough business. However, I never thought about giving up my dream and will continuing fighting as long as I can.

Visiting Other Bookstores

I have been to most of the independent bookstores in Taiwa. Tangshan bookstore could be considered the ideal bookstore to me.

The Importance of Bookstores

All the books in the bookstore were chosen by my wife and I, so when someone comes into the bookstore the books are a reflection of our personalities. Everyday is different in the bookstore, this is probably the happiest thing for me.

Principles of Choosing Books

We choose the books that we like to read, not just those in the bestsellers lists.

Manager’s Words

We have the best views of any bookstore in Taiwan!

Final Thoughts

If you are thinking of opening a bookstore, you need to think if it is really suitable for you or not. How much are you willing to sacrifice? Once it opens, you probably won’t have any time for playing any more!

For this activity, I interviewed the Youhe Bookstore’s manager. He was unlike many of the people that I have interviewed before, as he would pause frequently between sentences, thinking that he was done speaking, it often confused me. Due to my confusion, I would start asking him the next question, but it turned out that he was not done answering the previous question, which made me feel very rude. I learned from this interview that, for future interviews, I should wait 7-8 seconds to make sure that the speaker is finished speaking before moving on to the next question.
