Beginning

In the Fall of 2007, the seeds that would eventually lead to the forming of the Independent Bookstore Alliance were planted. Their aim was not to expand, but to alert the local community of their existence. This was an entrance for readers to enter the world of independent bookstores in Taiwan.

Purpose

At the beginning, the alliance insisted that they would cover the whole of Taiwan. By sharing resources and knowledge, all of Taiwan’s bookstores could become publishers. This also allowed a few books who wouldn’t exist in a world solely of big chain bookstores their chance. This gives creative thinkers and writers a chance to get their works publised and in bookstores.

Introduction

Established on November 10th, 2008, the Independent Bookstores Alliance joined all the bookstores together to share resources, ideas, information and supplies to improve efficiency.
Each store in the alliance maintained it’s own unique qualities to give readers choice outside of the bestsellers list, and improve the variety and depth books available in Taiwan.
However, because of personnel and financial issues, the alliance temporarily closed in 2010.
