Looking back in 1997, when foot-and-mouth disease spread by swine prevailed in Taiwan. The infected pigs of all the pig farmers were culled and killed. Though pig farmers received compensation money, they lost their jobs and the significance of their life. Seeing this, Mr. Lin Ching-shan, then working in the city, decided to return to Neimen to teach the unemployed farmers to promote exquisite agriculture, which was because he bore special feelings for the people and the earth of Neimen, and he still does. By employing innovatively economically method in “planting anthuriums,” he increased the ratios of business-starting, employment, and farmers’ benefits. By way of setting up industrial area for anthuriums and Council of Agriculture’s sponsoring “Vagrant Birds Camps,” creating the effect of trainings, guiding, and congregating, the industry’s increase of plantation area is listed the first nationwide, becoming the most unusual industry in Neimen. Mr. Lin Ching-shan, the professional of anthuriums in Neimen, was born in 1962. He was once the person in charge of four companies, including Chi-fang-yuan landscape Designing Co. Ltd. Now he is the director chairman of Green Flower Marketing Cooperative, Kaohsiung, and also in charge of Kaohsiung’s export demonstration area of anthuriums..

When in 1997 foot-and-mouth disease broke out in Taiwan, most pig farmers in Neimen were force to stay away from pig farming. Mr. Lin, who was then engaged in green landscaping and landscape design, because the love of his hometown and people living there, went back home and worked with his alumnus in Chia-yi Agricultural Vocational College. They devoted themselves to the cultivation of anthuriums, introducing and promoting native anthurium species of Hawaii and Central South Americas. Thus doing, they summoned the away-from-herding farmers to plunge into exquisite agriculture, which resulted in the founding of floral production-marketing squat. In 2001, Mr. Lin was awarded with Outstanding Farmers Award. He once again called together florists with the same beliefs to establish Green Flower Marketing Cooperative, which made him elected the Director Chairman. |
