Charity Bazaar

School Charity Sale

After the community second hand charity booksale came to an end, the Yu-Tsai Bookworms held another charity sale at school. The students were able to browse through the books at breaktime to see what they could find. When it was finished, not only had we helped promote reading in the community, but we had also help all those second hand books find a new home. The money we raised was given to the Rong Guang Orphanage.

Record

Venue decoration and publicity

The same as before, we put all of the second hand books in the library. We also placed poster there to help the students understand what the activity was about. When everything was ready, we annonunced it to the school over the tannoy and at break time the students came down to see what treasures they could find.

Charity Booksale

As soon as it was breaktime, the activity started. The cyberfair team had to take it in turns to stay in the library at breaktime to supervise. The activity wasn’t as busy as the community one, but there were people in the library looking for books at every breaktime.

A Successful Conclusion

After three weeks, almost all of the books had found a good home and the ones that were left, were donated to the school library so that everyone would have even more books to read!

Counting the Money

After to charity sales, we began to calculate how much money had been raised. We managed to raise $28385 in total which was all donated to the Rong Guang Orphanage.

Donating the Proceeds

We made an appointment with the director of the orphanage and we set of with the principal to donate the proceeds. We hoped that the money would be used well and that the children at the orphanage would feel our love.

Bookworm Says:
Teachers, students and community residents can give back some love to society is a really great thing.

“Helping the children is my happiness!” If I think like that, I will feel that it is my job. In this activity everyone worked hard, but I think that I can be more brave and not shy. This activity was really interesting, I was happy that we earned many books.

In the second-hand book bazaar in school, we had to tell the students the rules of buying books which is to arrange the books that they browsed. Sometimes there were students that look over the book for a long time, but still wouldn’t buy it. When this happened, I felt disheartened. However there were still many students and teachers that enthusiastic bought a lot of books in one time! I believed that the books that were already sold, must find a new good owner. And also because of everyone’s enthusiasm, we were able to donate the money from the book sale to the people who need money. The second-hand book bazaar was really meaningful!
