Charity Bazaar

During the process of our research, we discovered that in 2007 Small Small Bookshop held a book sharing event. The idea was to pass on old books to new owners. Because of this, the Bookworms decided to learn from the bookstore and try the activity with the school staff and students. Inside the school and the wider community they organized second-hand book events.

Prior to the event, we used many methods to promote the event including a film, official website, social networks and at the school assembly.

Activity Partner-New Taipei City Library – Yonghe Branch

For this activity, Teacher Thomas helped us call the local library to ask for some assistance and offer a space outside the library to sell books. The head of the library happily agreed and also offered library cards to the students.

"Great Books Shouldn’t Be Lonely – Pass Them On!"- Promoting the Activity

After we decided on the time and location, we began to use the morning assemblies and lunchtimes to promote the activity. We hope that parents will bring in books that students no longer read. We can help them find new owners! We also promoted to the students the idea of getting their own library cards!

New Life for Second-Hand Books

Students who donated books were give book travel cards to put inside their books along with a few words. In just a week, we already had over 100 students signed up for library cards! Many students volunteered to help out the Cyberfair team in organizing books. Each book was wiped clean and given a price tag, and then organized by value. Finally they were carrried down to the first floor to wait for the day of the event. With the help of all our classmates, we were going to give these old books a new life!

Bookworm Says:
In just a week, we were able to collect a whopping 2000 books! Each book was priced between five and forty dollars. Many of the books looked like new after a little cleaning. Thanks to all our classmates for their help and hard work.
