Reading is something that we should share with our good friends. After watching the film, Reading for Hope, everyone began to treasure reading more. Therefore the school thought it would be a good idea for all of the grades to watch the film in the hope that they could promote reading to the students, teachers and even the community.
We hoped we could share with the whole school what we felt and let everyone taking the seed of reading and allow it to grow, finding the joy of reading again.

Activity

Date: 12/13/2012 |Location: Yu-Tsai Elementary School Classrooms
Attendees: Members of the cyberfair team, teachers and the whole school

Record

The Host’s Opening

It was lunchtime. The host explained to everyone what the activity for that lunch time would be. We wanted to share with everyone a film about reading. We asked everyone to switch on the projectors, pull down the screen and get ready to enjoy the film, Reading for Hope!

The Film

Everyone watch the film and ate their lunch. They saw how children living in remote areas of Taiwan viewed reading and how they cherished their library bus. One student in the film said, “If you don’t read, you’re head will be empty and you’ll be stupid!” The entire school laughed. It seemed like they could all relate to what that boy said.

Sharing

After the film, the host and everyone share their thoughts and feelings about reading. The children living in remote places love reading so much and we hoped that everyone living in the city with easy access to books would remember the happiness that reading can bring. At last we told everyone about our plan to sell second hand books in the library to raise money for charity.

Yu-Tsai Bookworms Says:
Before showing the film, we had to check that each of the classes’ equipment worked as normal. We also had to ask the head of student affairs to tell everyone to pay attention 10 and 5 minutes before so that the broadcast wouldn’t be missed!

Students’ Thoughts

Daniel

From the movie I discovered the thirsty that children living in remote places have for reading and books. Books help them to learn more and give them a brighter future.

Apollo

After the movie I felt like I could use my free time to do some more reading and that I should treasure books more. Also I could donate some of my old books to the children who live in remote places.

Melody

After seeing the film, I thought that I could write a book called Reading Angels so that everyone could understand why reading is such a good thing.

Jordan

I think that reading can help me learn and grow up. We have a great reading environment and we are so lucky so we should treasure this.

Tammy

Reading is a good habit to have. It can bring us happiness and it can give us vast knowledge.

Eason

I have so many books at school and home that I can read. We should use our free time to read more because reading can make us smarter!

Victor

I think I should develop the habit of reading and read a book every day. That way I can increase my knowledge.

Andrea

Reading can increase your knowledge. I believe that we can be like the children in the movie and find the joy in books.

Brian

I think they are brilliant! They don’t have a great reading environment, but they still read every day. We’ve got so many books in the library so we should try to read more!

Sandy

I saw one kid in the movie say, “Reading is like a friend, it will always be with you.” I think what he said has a lot of meaning. A book is a friend forever!

Ellen

This film moved me very much. I think I’m very lucky. Every day when I go home I can read at my desk.
