After several interview experiences, we the junior corps acquired the skills to be a journalist. So we would go online gathering information about the interviewees, then discuss main interview questions, make an appointment and be there on time. In the evening of October 27, the corps visited Mrs. Qiu’s Yualin History Studio once again, where there was a meeting held by Changhua County Hakka Local Consulting Group. Professor Qingmei Chu at Chienkuo Technology University was the convener, while the Raoping Hakka master Mrs. Qiu and Sixian Hakka master Luo were the associate consultants. We were allowed to sit on the meeting and interview when the meeting was over.

Professor Chu said the Consulting Group was asked by the Changhua County Government in 2016 to help the townships in Changhua County build Hakka life environment, and to hand proposals to the Hakka Affairs Council and the upper authorities. Professor Chu thought building Hakka environment also needs the promotion of local Hakka language; they should be carried out at the same time. Also, in order to achieve this goal, hardworking Hakka language talents like Mrs. Qiu is a must. Professor Chu indicated that Mrs. Qiu, the forward-looking Hakka teacher, is the only one in a hundred years that successfully set up Raoping Hakka family classes. If there were more Hakka cultural environment assistance, it will be double better.

Speaking of the Consulting Group’s priority, Professor Chu said it is always cooperate with the Changhua County Government, and work together with the districts, townships and cities to promote Hakka life environment plan, which can be divided into three stages: first, build Changhua Hakka life environment in general; second, go deep into communities and key areas like cultural heritages; and third, help apply the funds and carry out the plan as a whole.

After listening to the practicing details the Hakka Consulting Group addressed for 2016, the corps also felt the excitement about building Hakka environment. Professor Chu introduced some successful cases as well, such as the hiking trails in Xizhou Township, Changhua County, where there are a lot of Hakka symbolic objects....

When it comes to the revival of Raoping Hakka, which is still relatively in disadvantage, local culture expert Professor Chu said Changhua County desperately needs more Hakka language teachers and more Raoping Hakka classes. He indicated that Mrs. Qiu’s continuing Raoping Hakka Family Class is a good example, and it is really nice to see online news about her guiding parents and children to perform in Hakka or take part in Hakka language contests. Professor Chu spoke highly of Mrs. Qiu’s dedication to Changhua Hakka culture in recent years. He had seen Mrs. Qiu in many public places, Hakka TV Channel, media, schools and community centers teaching Hakka language and Hakka culture. He also witnessed her hosting or guiding in various events and activities. That is why she is invited by the Changhua County Government to work as a consultant in Hakka Consulting Group. They hope to make a breakthrough and show some Changhua Hakka characteristics in 2016 with the help from Mrs. Qiu and her expertise in Changhua Hakka culture.

This interview with Professor Chu, which showed that the Changhua County Government has been working with the experts and scholars to promote Changhua Hakka culture, was indeed important.
