Being encouraged by Mrs. Qiu, 16 parents and children enrolled in the eighth Natonal Raoping Hakka reading and speech contest in October. The contest is instructed by Hakka Affairs Council and held by Hsinchu Raoping Hakka Culture Association. Mrs. Qiu exerted her superb writing skill to write drafts. She also marked the phonetic symbols and recorded it. She corrected each of their pronunciation and within one week, from stumbling over words to fluently speaking, they made a great progress. Then, they practiced giving speeches on campus and in communities, which also helped with Raoping Hakka promotion.

In the afternoon on October 20th, Mrs. Qiu arranged the Corp to give speeches to the second graders in local language classroom. The speakers are Minshun Huang on the topic of “Small Tortoise”, Tingfeng Qiu “Go To Market” and Ningyu Chen “The Origin of Sky Broken Day”. Mrs. Qiu made a summary of the speech contents to the junior students and the junior classmates gave the speakers feedbacks after listening to their speech. We all learnt valuable lessons and gained experiences.

At last, the members of the Corp took turn to teach the junior some of the sentences in the speech and they repeated after us. It gave us a sense of accomplishment watching them learning from us because we were like little teachers for the first time. We really thank Mrs. Qiu for teaching us every morning. The Corp had learnt Hakka from enrolling in competitions and going on promotions. Hakka opens up a new way for us.
