We Love Small Small

After doing a survey with the public, we discovered that most people did not know anything about the Small Small Bookshop so we decided to introduce the bookshop to the community. On the streets we placed posters, held up billboards and handed out leaflets in busy places to introduce Small Small. We hoped that the public would know a little more about Small Small and would want to go there afterwards.

In the Community II

Date:11/21/2012
Location:In front of McDonald’s on Zhulin Rd, Yonghe
Attendees:Sabrina, Angela, Tianne, Belle, Lucy, Lee, Andrew and Ray

Preparation

  • 1. Making the posters, billboards and leaflets.
  • 2. Choosing the location and route.
  • 3. Practicing introductions.

Activity

Entering the Community

This was our first time to promote something within the community. The teachers put us into groups of 3 so that we would have more courage to face the public. After getting into groups, we began to practice what it would be like talking to people.

Location

Of course, the busiest place at lunchtime is Zhulin Rd so we decided to hand out leaflets in front of a market and McDonald’s. The three teams stood under the busy walkway handing out leaflets. Zhulin Rd was filled with the sound of the bookworms, “There’s a special bookstore – the Small Small Bookshop in Yonghe, please come and visit if you have time!” Many of the people who listened to out introduction said they definitely would visit.

Promoting

After working hard to publicize the bookshop, all of the leaflets had been handed out and our throats were sore from talking.
On the way back to school, the team continued to promote the shop using the posters and billboards that we had on us. When we arrived back at school, we finally finished out activity!
Our teacher said, “Everyone worked hard and did very well!”

I was very afraid that I would be rejected, until I saw other classmates . I thought to myself that I need to give myself a chance to try. Sometimes people rejected the flyers , but in the end I finally finish this scary activity! I have learnt that I can’t give up. I need to continue to try be my best!

I found out that handing out leaflets wasn’t hard work, but sometimes we would hear rude remarks. So next time if we are going to hand out leaflets again, maybe I might be able to endure more “scat”! When we were distributing the leaflets, the people that’s older wouldn’t look at us, so I target those younger, tell them about Small Small. Also changed the distribution place to intersection, so we finish giving our leaflets quickly! And the most important was, we let the people in this community know about Small Small!
