Hot Spring Resources

Hongye Hot Spring

Rooms of the New Hotel

In fact, Hong Ye Hot Spring is not in Ruei Suei Township but in Hong Ye Village, Wan-rong Township. As the visitors have to go through Ruei Suei Village to visit the hot spring, which is neighboring Ruei Suei, many writers regard it in Ruei Suei Township. In addition, it is opposite to the outer hot spring (Ruei Suei Hot Spring) across the Hong Ye River. Therefore, Hong Ye Hot Spring is also called “inner hot spring.” It is located 5km from Ruei Suei Rail Station, which is archaic and simple Japanese style architecture.

At the temperature of 47ºC, the spring water, suitable for drinking and in a spa, is colorless, tasteless, and odorless. With abundant supply, it is full all year round. Now, there is an indoor pool, lodging services, restaurants, parking lots, outdoor camp site, etc in this area. According to the owner, he has opened a new outdoor spa in 2002 already.

It is an archaic Japanese style chamber that is a few decades old. In the house, just lay down the colorful mattress on the floor and change the simple slippers. Then, you can follow the finger sign to the bathhouse. Inside the bathhouse, there are a few old style bathtubs inlaid with round colorful tiles. It is the nostalgic Hong Ye Hot Spring, which always gives the victors unforgettable memories.

Around Ruei Suei, Hualien, there are two hot spring scenic spots: the inner hot spring (Hong Ye Hot Spring) and the outer hot spring (Ruei Suei Hot Spring). Especially Hong Ye Hot Spring, it is famous for its Japanese style left from the Japanese occupation.

In the Ching Dynasty, the Truku people had already discovered Hong Ye Hot Spring. Later, hotels were built there during the Japanese occupation period. As it is located in the mountainous area, with red leaves surrounding, the landscape gives people the impression of primitive beauty. No wonder why many visitors come here from afar.

Rueisui Hot Spring Spa

Rueisui Hot Spring

Called outer hot spring, Ruei Suei Hot Spring, with Hong Ye Hot Spring and An-tong Hot Spring, are called the three major springs in the gorge district.

In 1919, it began to be developed. There was a public bathhouse. The Japanese style companies are still in operation now. Equipped with outdoor bathhouse, they offer the visitors the fun of bathing in the woods!

The special thing about the pool here is that the spring water is rich in iron, at the temperature of 48ºC. When it contacts with the air, it will turn turbid a little bit. Also, the water tastes salty, similar to rust, being the only carbonate hot spring in Taiwan. Many first time visitors think the water to be dirty and hesitate getting into the spring. In fact, the Japanese visitors that know the effects of this spring even come a long way to soak in this spring with salt crystals floating on it. It is said that it is good for allergic skin disease, arthritis.

Here, the personal tubs are made from logs, wide and deep. Especially, under the tub, there is a wooden bench for the bather to sit on. If you sit on the bottom directly, it may be quite deep. Taking me as an example I am 176cm tall. When I sit on the bottom of the tub, the water is up to my neck. It is quite an enjoyable experience. It’s a pity that only hot spring water is running into the pool, without any cold water to adjust the water temperature.

In addition to personal pools, there is an outdoor spring at Ruei Suei Hot Spring. However, if you want to get a dip in it, you have to wear a swimsuit. It a pity that there isn’t a spa spout in this outdoor spring.TOP

In the community, there is the Hong Ye River (one of the three origins of Shiu-ku Lian River), being the junction of YA YUN GI YOUN and YA YOUN DA SIL. Especially, the water in YA YUN GI YOUN is clean and clear, with many preserved fishes swimming inside. Our community is about to form a river protection association to protect these precious fish to give them a sustainable environment.TOP
