Brief Genealogy of the Chen family

Introduction to Dr. Jing Sung Chen(1903~1999)

He is a local resident in Tianjhong and the grandson of Mr. Shao-nian Chen. He majored in Law in the beginning of his study in Japan. But because his father, Fang-fui Chen had a serious Asthma. At that time, there were rare doctors in Tianjhong, so when his father went to see a doctor, he often had to wait for a long time. Dr. Jing Sung Chen thought that medical ethics and skills are important. To consider about his father's health, he decided to transfer to major in medical school in University of Tokyo, finally graduated with a degree of medical, and came back to Taiwan in the year of 1930.

After he came back to his hometwon, Tianjhong, he brought the latest medical skills to cure patients. Dr. Jing Sung Chen is a Pediatrician. At that time, measles is a common disease in the country, and there were not vaccinations for the disease yet. But Dr. Chen can correctly diagnose the patients' conditions only by observing their tongues. So people honored me as the "Master of Measles."

Dr. Jing Sung Chen devoted himself to medical care more than sixty years and he healed and cured numerous patients. He is not only good at medical skills but also very kind to the patients. Everyone admires Dr. Chen in medicine and they even write a poem to honor him for his benevolence and generosity.

Dr. Chen has mercy to his patients. Every time when one has no money to pay the medical expense. He not only didn't charge them any money buy also help them with food or money. Every year when the lunar new year comes, he would burn down all the debt records in the past year and not ask the patients for money. These deeds are still on the residents' lips till now. They all praise Dr. Chen is as good as a sage.

  Many of Dr. Chen's offspring are touched by what he behaved, so they devoted themselves to helping the poor. In Chen's family, more than 30 people took the physician career. Dr. Chen reminded his offspring that if they become a surgeon, never accept the red envelope (extra money) from the patients.
