Ching Wang, Retired Principal of Ping He

Time runs fast! The children orchestra in Ping He has been established for ten years. Thanks for teachers' hard work.

I value music education, so I am always sincere in employing music teachers. When college graduates come to our county, I would always probe their background and invite them to teach in Ping He, sometimes with some help from my friends. Ms Chia-Yu Lin, Ru-Zhen Yen and Miao-Shan Lai were then recruited to Ping He, which prospered the music education of our school.

My philosophy in teaching is to foster an excellent teaching environment to make teachers exploit their expertise and nurture the kids. When Ms Lin came, she was devoted to music education, which really touched me. She even proposed to expand the drum-flute band into the children orchestra. After two years of preparation, with the funding of the education bureau, Ping He children orchestra was founded in 1995. Ms Lin and Ms Yen were the guiding teachers for the children orchestra. In addition to Group Activity lessons, they had to teach the students during lunch breaks and recessions, which was a hard job. The children orchestra members were students from different classes. Thanks to the support of all homeroom teachers.

As long as one works hard, one could gain the fruits. The band got cum laude in music competitions of Changhua County and the central Taiwan. Ms Lin went to America in 1996. And Ms Yen and Ms Lai shouldered the children orchestra's conduction, continuing the glorious achievement. Four years later, Ms Lin got double degrees in the master program and was enrolled in the doctoral program. When she came back to our school, she kept working for the children orchestra with no less passion. Ms Zi-Ling Chen also joined the children orchestra. The children orchestra then climbed to its climax. In addition to devoting herself to Ping He, Ms Lin, along with her husband, Dr. Dao-Bin Yang, a teacher of He Mei Elementary school, worked together to boost the music education and community activities of Changhua County.

Music could nurture one's personality, boost one's taste and enrich one's life. The children orchestra members are lucky students to learn to play the music instruments. A children orchestra is composed of different kinds of musical instruments. Each instrument is indispensable of the children orchestra. So no matter what kind of musical instrument you play, you are of equal importance in the children orchestra. You should make beautiful and harmonious melody together. Hope that the children orchestra of Ping He could progress and prosper.
