Assigned Song and Elective Song (Writer: Ms. Liu)
Assigned Song
The hosts of National Student Music Competition will release the assigned songs every July.There are three assigned songs for elementary school children orchestra since two of the songs were too easy, I thus chose "English Folk Song Suite 3rd Mov." for the orchestra. The song is challenging but with bright and lively rhythm, which is suitable to train these kids.
We spent about two months practicing the song, but the refinement of the performance required constant implements.
Elective Song
I'd thought about arranging this piece couple years ago when I first instructed the orchestra, but I was worried about the length of this song. In addition, I was rotated as the instrauctor for the orchestra or the choir with other teachers, and I was afraid the managements of those musical instruments. So I didn't buy the Drum Set for the new piece that I would like to arrange.
Until we failed unexpectedly in the Changhua County Music Competition last year, I decided to use "Jupiter" to train the skills of the orchestra members and booked new music scores from abroad. I then rearranged the piece, hoping to elaborate this dramatic song.
The whole song was arranged, taught and rearranged for about three to four months. But due to the meticulous nature of the instructor, the song was even rearranged two weeks before the competition.
