Walking into Still Thoughts Hall
Three-Layer Roof
Nian Ting
Triple-layer roof structure: the Still Thoughts Hall triple-layer roof represents three treasures-Buddha, Buddhism and monks. The materials used for the roof construction are Japanese copper tiles which are not only resistant against typhoons and earthquakes but are also hard to be damaged. Nevertheless, oxidation of the copper tiles is not a concern because the verdigris caused by the oxidation will form into a natural protection film. Using this type material is a means of preserving resources, which can last for over hundred years. The verdigris after oxidation will also make the roof look more spectacular and magnificent. There are currently 36,000 pieces of copper tiles used for Still Thoughts Hall.
