History
With regard to the history of
instant noodles in Taiwan, we must unavoidably manage our investigation on the
most commonly seen instant noodle brand--- Uni-president.
Thus, we found out the following data which was from the website of Uni-present
Noodles:
The start of instant noodles should be traced back to the
60s.
On August 25, 1958, the first pack of instant noodles in the world¢w¢w ¡§chicken
ramen¡¨ was developed by Mr. Momofuku Ando of Nissin Foods (Japan) to the market.
The history of Taiwan instant noodles started at the birth of
¡§Shengli Noodles¡¨ in 1967. Uni-president learned instant noodle technique in the
food companies of Japan in December 1969. The base of technique was important.
The manufacturing of dough requires maual measurement and the exclusive manual
skillfulness.
On March 29, 1970, ¡§Uni-present Noodles¡¨ with only one
flavoring pack formally encouterned the historical battle with ¡§Shengli Noodles¡¨
in the history of noodles. After entering the market for one year, the
performance of Uni-present Noodles was not satisfying. At the beginning of the
70s, the general manager at the time, Mr. Ching-yuan Gao, invited the Japanese
guests to Tainan Duhsiaoyueh to have the traditional food Dantsai noodles which
became the historical turning point of Uni-president instant noodles. Tainan
Duhsiaoyueh was filled with the smell of minced pork. On the low table and
chairs, everyone could talk to each other more closely which attracted the
guests¡¦ heart. After going back to the laboratory, Mr. Wu immediately asked the
researcher Mr. De-he Li to actively develop Uni-present Minced Pork Noodles with
traditional local flavor. After the continuous research for over 4 months,
manual Uni-present Minced Pork Noodles entered to the market on August 3, 1971.
The vigorous life of Minced Pork Noodles was thus developed from childhood,
adolescence to the meridian of life at 34 years old at present.

January 20, 2007: Shengli Noodles was the first pack of
instant noodles which
accompanied the people from 40 to 50 years old to
experience every night of the games
of Hongyeh Little League Baseball Team. When the
respondents in the news mentioned
those days, they were too moved to speak. They also
said that most of the people at
the time did not cook Shengli Noodles which was not
cheap. If they cooked it, it would
be like ordinary noodles which were not special.
Therefore, most of the people ate it
as ¡§Prince Noodles¡¨ nowadays.
The appearance of Uni-present Minced
Pork Noodles replaced the exclusive market of
Shengli Noodles since comparing with Shengli Noodle
which only had monosidum glutamate
and green onion flavoring pack, it further had minced
pork flavoring pack. Fresh
eating metho and the smell of minced pork swept across
the market. Its traditional
flavor was still everyone¡¦s favorite until now. In
2006, the consumers¡¦ top one
instant noodle was still Uni-present Minced Pork
Noodle!

From 1980 to 1987, Uni-president
Danggui Flour Noodles, Mushroom Pork Broth Noodles, Shrimp Noodles, Green Onion
and Beef Noodles, Flour Strips entered the market one after another. Green Onion
and Beef Noodles was particulary popular in the market. The unique Malaysian
flavor of Bak Kut The Noodles which entered the market in 1986 has been the
leading brand at the time. The developer was Mr. Chi-hong Su who is currently
the manager of ice cream department. He started the reward of new product to the
market in the year.
In the 80s, the economy of Taiwan was starting to develop.
After eating the instant noodles with only oil and flavoring packs for over ten
years, the consumers had the consiciousness that ¡§instant noodles is in
innutritious¡¨. At the beginning of 1983, the researchers began applying the
nutritious food trend to the products and broke through the saying of
innutritious instant noodles by changing Fu Pei-mei food into disinfected soft
bag. On October 15, 1983, Uni-president Manhan Noodles entered the market. After
one year, the business volume was over NT$100 million and they established the
record that one out of two people has eaten Manhan Noodles. The colorful
packaging with the real meat picture was attractive. After pouring hot water on
the noodles in the bowl, we tear the heated flavoring pack and poured
sweet-smelling and juicy chunk meat in the noodle soup. It thus became the
delicious noodle food recommended by professional chefs. The taste and authentic
ingredients were affirmed by the consumers. Manhan Rice-flour Noodles series was
developed in 1984. The continuous development of other new flavors was to
satisfy the consumers¡¦ critical mouth and changeable taste.
On September 4, 1989, Uni-president transported a set of cup
packing machine from the U.S. back to the first food plant. The product design
was based on this machine. At the time, the women gradually turned from
housewives into working women. It was also the prosperous time of Taiwan and
many people generally had the habit eating night snacks. It was the best time
introducing cup noodles. R&D of cup noodles successfully entered the market and
was named ¡§One More Cup¡¨ which targeted on young group. Being a simple cup of
night snack, ¡§One More Cup¡¨ was the energy supply for late night study in the
memory of the people born in the 70s. .
By 2000¡¦s, ¡§One more cup¡¨ might be suitable for the women;
however, it could not satisfy the men¡¦s diet. Thus, A-Q Garlic Pork Bucket
Noodles with the earliest flavor from the master Kun-hong Li was born in Dec.,
1990. In the winter of 1991, Ginger Brewed Duck and Sesame Oil Chicken Broth
Noodles allowed people to have one more simple way to enjoy winter Jing Bu. In
the summer of the next year,
Pineapple and Bittermelon Cooked Chicken series was promoted. In 1993, Shiquan
Dabu Thin Noodles met the modern health trend such as medicine care, Chinese
Angelica mutton and chicken essence noodles. In 1995, Uni-president
¡§Shanglinyan¡¨ entered the market and provided a kind of thoughtful choice for
the vegetarians. At the time when various instant noodles rose and failed, the
Japanese diet culture was introduced to Taiwan. In order to respond to this
trend, Ramendao entered the market in 1999 and it replaced the traditional
noodles by ramen with better bitting. It followed the thick taste of Japanese
misu and pork and was named ¡§WAKUWAKU¡¨ which launched a Japanese ramen fashion
in Taiwan.
