Green Transport

As the title implies, green transportation is a kind of transportation that takes up lesser energy and resources. It includes transporting by bicycle, on foot, by boat, or by other kinds of transportation that cause lesser damage to the environment. As a response to the Kyoto Protocol that states the reduction of carbon dioxide emission, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications preliminarily drafts the development of the green transportation system to achieve the goal of phased-reduction, such as the alleviation of increasing motor vehicle and motorcycle usage, and the promotion of mass transportation usage.. The Kaohsiung City Government, for the past few years, has also put efforts into promoting green transportation. As a result, their efforts have helped Kaohsiung create a new image. Along with the rapid transit system that is soon to be finished, mass transportation will play an important role in Kaohsiung. In the future, Kaohsiung will gradually come to embody the essence of green transportation. At present, the preliminary achievements are as follows:

1. Construction of bicycle paths:

Bicycle paths combine both the functions of leisure enjoyment and transportation. It provides people with another kind of recreation within the city. Presently, there are many bicycle paths in Kaohsiung, yet the most famous ones are:

(1) The Cijin Oceanview Bike Path

The Cijin Oceanview Bike Path divides into two routes: one is the Coastal Park Route, while the other is the Wind Treading Route. The Coastal Park Route passes by the Wind-power Park and Sewerage System Museum along the way, both providing observatory decks. As for the Wind Treading Route, it passes by a star tunnel, which adds a romantic feeling to the bicycle trip.

(2) The Love River Bicycle Track:

The route of Love River Bicycle Track starts from the estuary of Love River at Wufu Road and ends at the Lotus Pond. Many beautiful scenery and facilities are built along the way. Taking a bicycle ride on the track is not only a way to exercise, but also a kind of enjoyment of ease and comfort.part of the blue highway.

2. The Blue Highway:

In order to make efficient use of Kaohsiung's abundant water resources, the City Governmetnt simultaneously puts the Blue Highway project into practice and makes a complete connection between street and water zones. Beginning from the estuary of Love River near the Kaohsiung Bridge, the Blue Highway passes by the Singuan Warf, the Gushan Ferry Terminal, the Cijin Ferry Terminal, the Cijin Fish Market, the Zhongzhou Ferry Terminal, the Gaozi Pagoda, the New Oceanside Village, the Qianzhen Fishing Port, and returns to Singuan Warf in the end. In addition, if you take a ride on the Love Boat, you can enjoy the beautiful river scenery in the morning and the sparkling lights on the river at night. With the gentle wave of the water, you can not only fully observe the beauty of the Love River, but also may become enchanted by the beauty of Kaohsiung's water culture.

Reflection

Recently, Kaohsiung puts efforts in expanding green transportation. I believe that this is very meaningful indeed. Ever since the invention of cars and motorcycles, our ecological environment has faced serious crisis. Besides the serious problem of air pollution, there are other environmental problems such as global warming and a hole appearing in the ozone layer. It is believed that not much longer, a new era of green transportation will be started after the completion and opening up of the rapid transit system. As for journeys back and forth within short distances, walking or bicycle riding will come to replace the traditional way of transporting by car or motorcycle, so as to fulfill the purposes of reducing energy consumption, providing leisure enjoyment and, most importantly, protecting the ecology of our planet.
