Muntingia calabura Linn. (Jamaican cherry)

Family tiliaceae

A small evergreen tree, the Muntingia calabura Linn. (Jamaican cherry) can grow up to 6 to 12 meters! Its lateral branches, densely covered with stellate hairs, spread horizontally. Its alternate leaves, arranging in two rows, are oblong-oval-shaped. The fruit, when turning from green to red, is quite sweet in maturity. Its unique flavor and suffusing fragrance prompt some people to call it a coffee tree.
