Albizia falcataria(L.)Fosberg (white albizia)

Family fabaceae

Being a megaphanecophyte, the Albizia falcataria (L.) Fosberg (white albizia) is originally native to Moluccas in South Asia. Now it is widely planted in tropical areas. It looks really like the peacacock flower, both of whom have bipinnate compound leaves. But in fact they are different. The differences can be discerned from the tree shapes and the shape of the leaflets. The peacacock flower has spreading branches looking like a gigantic unbrella, blunt leaflet tips, and orange red flowers; whereas the white albizia has upwardly extending branches, skew leaflet bases, and yellow white flowers. Plants of the fabaceae family always have inflorescences similar to those of the sensitive plant’s, with spherical capitula opening radially in all directions.
