About us

Drum Set Player|Hong-Yu Chen

Ms. Liu said I had good sense of rhythm so she started to teach me the snare drum. I got another competitor, You-Chen Ye, so I learned very hard and practiced at home every day. I finally defeated my competitor. I could keep play snare drum and he had to play Bass Drum. I was very happy about it.
Changhua County Music Competition assigned song was announced when the summer training began. I couldn't participle in the whole training because I had to go to the cram school. My practicing time was less than the others. I was reassigned to xylophone once. I didn't feel right at that time. The teacher still let me play my favorite snare drum in elective song. I tried my best to keep practicing. We went to school early and practiced again in contest day. We tried to relax before the contest but we got serious when we arrived the chamber. We entered the stage when the timpani ready. We started to play when our teacher started to conduct. Some of us played earlier than the teacher's directing but we still did our best. The teacher looked sad when they announced the grade and we felt sad, too. Our teacher treated us with McDonald's and comforted the crying members. The teacher encouraged us and asked us keep our practice next day.
During winter training, the teacher assigned me to drum set. I felt very worry about it because I never tried the instrument. The teacher said she would learn how to play it and she will teach me. At first, we didn't have a drum set. The teacher combined a special set by cymbal, snare drum, and tomtom for me to practice. I was afraid that I couldn't learn it when the real set came. After teacher's training and my practicing, I finally got it.
When summer training begun, I really wanted to participate the whole section but my mom still wanted me to go to the cram school. I promised my parents that I would finish the summer vacation homeworks voluntarily, reading books, and doing exercise. It finally convinced them won't let me go to the cram school. Now, we beat the biggest enemy and we are going to the nationalcompetition. We also joined a lot of activities and concerts. I understood the importance of cooperation. I also learned to appreciate others' advantages and the spirit of facing difficulty. It is an unforgettable memory.
