In 1987, Taiwan lifted martial law. Jimmy Huang just retired from army,
and could not find his direction. His first job was as an Assistant of
the legislator Rong-shu Xu. Later, a friend told that there was a work
of watching movies with pay-- the Golden Horse Film Festival. That was
the beginning. Although he carried heavy copies from room to room and
worked from nine to three o'clock in the morning every day, only getting
7,500 dollars as a month's salary, his passion for movies was aroused.
Jimmy said that he always looks for talents with passions like him,
because it is difficult to survive in the movie industry.
Later,
Jimmy became an editor of “Influence" film magazine, and understood the
production of a movie within a year. During this period, he researched
many topics, from comedies, war, to westerns movies. He often read
English book in the movie library. Jimmy Huang built his theoretical
foundation during this year until the magazine ceased publication.
Introduced by director Kuo-fu Chen, Jimmy Huang joined the Central
Pictures. In the beginning, he served as the Reader-reading scripts to
analyze screenplays. The influence of this work is twofold: Firstly, the
ability to recognize a good script through a lot of reading; Secondly,
the chances to know many excellent directors like Ming-liang Tsai, Kuo-fu
Chen, Chin-yen Yee, Cheng-sheng Lin, Xiao-Li Wang, and so on.

Since 1995, Jimmy Huang started in production work and had more than 15
years experience till now. A producer has to control the budget, funding
sources, and the shooting schedule; to fulfill the need of film crew,
including human resources, room and lodging, scene, and equipment. He
serves as a coordinator between screenwriter, director, and funders,
which is not an easy task. Taipei Postproduction Director Yun-Chung
Chang said, "Jimmy Huang is definitely the No. 1 producer in Taiwan”.
In 2008, Jimmy Huang and Te-sheng Wei
jointly established the ARS film. "Cape No. 7" is their masterpiece. In
2011, their epic film-"Seediq Bale" with NT$ 7 billion funds opened a
new era of the domestic film industry.
