On January
14, 2004, the government recognized Truku as a tribe. With customs and culture
similar to Tayal Tribe, they live in the high mountains, on hunting and water
culture, and regard rainbows as gods. However, they cannot communicate with
each other in their native languages. Although they live in the same neighborhood,
they hardy keep in touch with each other.

As
time progresses, under the impact of new culture, Truku people lament, “Life
is getting tougher and tougher!” In recent years, following the change in the political
and economic environment, more and more Taiwan aborigines have returned to
their own tribes. And the tribe’s people begin to awake. But we feel alien to
our own culture.
Therefore,
we begin to interview the elders, wise people, and cultural workers in the
village. We collect the oral histories of the elders and all the available
documents in order to demonstrate Truku’s oral literature, unique hunting
culture, delicate weaving culture, magic bamboo reed pipe music and dance,
mythology, and legends.
After
we finish our work, we are fully aware that we do not aim to record the fading
Truku culture only, but also to allow Truku children to re-think the tribe’s
hallmark.TOP
