Their instant help and encouragement is our biggest drive.

6. The Research Project’s Influence and Impact on Us:
(1)From Chuang Rao Hakka Junior Corps’ Aspect:
Only through interviewing with Mrs. Meidu Qiu and several other cultural experts, and through long information gathering, did we understand there are at least 400 thousand Hakkas in Chuanghua County. We had no idea before. Therefore, we have to work hard to spread and share what we have learned to other people, to encourage them to learn Chuanghua Raoping Hakka and let the language as well as culture keep running.

(2)From the School and Community’s Aspect:
This research project on Chuanghua Raoping Hakka revival not only has the school’s full support but also the assistance and resources from communities and other cities. Local residents and historical and literary workers also give it a hand without hesitation, which brings them and the school closer, and the students too experience nice Hakka friendliness.

(3)The People and the Environment:
With the convenience of the Internet, this research project hopes to let others know and appreciate Mrs. Meidu Qiu’s hardwork on reviving Chunaghua Raoping Hakka. Also, this project tries to arouse people’s attention to the local Hakka language, and therefore help revive and promote Chuanghua Raoping Hakka.

7. Discoveries, Lessons, Surprises:
Discoveries
  1. Recent statistics shows that there are at least 400 thousand Hakkas in Chuanghua County, about half are Raoping Hakka, and they mainly live in Yuanlin, Yongjing, Tianwei, Puxin and Zhutang.
  2. After 1945, nearly all the people in Chuanghua County could not speak Raoping Hakka language, and their offspring don’t even know they are Raoping Hakka.
  3. Chuanghua and Zhuolan Raoping is very close, and thanks Mrs. Qiu for being the bridge to revive this language and let more and more people hear it.
  4. Chuanghua Raoping Hakka was like a dead desert, but with Mrs. Qiu’s two-year irrigation, there comes an oasis.
  5. According to Mrs. Qiu, she has had at least 5000 students learning Raoping with her for the past three years. This is a start of identity, as well a good turning point.
  6. Mrs. Qiu believes Chuanghua Raoping Hakka will continue to thrive. And next would be: Chuang Rao Hakka prevails over the county.

Lessons
  1. Must be fully prepared before interviews. Practice how to ask questions, otherwise it would be hard to conduct an interview on the spot.
  2. Remember to record and videotape during the interview. Note-taking has to be organized, otherwise it would not be easy to recall the points when synthesizing the information.
  3. Finish today’s work efficiently. Records for today’s interview is best done today, so that there won’t be any chance of forgetting details.
  4. Save the same files on different devices and make use of online drive, in case of any surprises.
  5. Keep in mind that frictions between each team member are always there, and things cannot always go as the plan.

Surprises
  1. It is surprising that Mrs. Meidu Qiu successfully revives and promotes Chuanghua Raoping Hakka just in two years.
  2. “Mrs. Qiu good job! Nice done!” We witness the magic power of Mrs. Qiu to make something out of nothing. It proves that where there is a will, there is a way.
  3. Not until we took part in this project did we know Raoping Hakka is our mother tongue. It intrigues us to seek the root and promote Mrs. Qiu’s hard work on reviving the language.
  4. As a history and culture worker and a language teacher, Mrs. Qiu is a good role model who successfully revives the Raoping Hakka language, which had disappeared for 50 years.
  5. Folks, including kids to some 80 years olds, learn how to speak Raoping Hakka and become very confident with it.
  6. Hope Taiwan Raoping Hakka always thrives and passes on.
  7. Mrs. Qiu not only publishes many Chuanghua local history books but also successfully revives Raoping Hakka. She is a good example of Chuanghua Hakka females!
