After finishing all the project, we discovered many things we didn’t know before. Although the independent bookstore association faces lots of problems from the start, Mr. Chen still got past them. At first, I thought there weren't a lot of information on our topic, and it might not let us understand topic well; however, after visiting Mr. Chen, we got more information, and we also knew that it was difficult to found an association. Although there are hard works, there must also be good results. The creation of the association allows people to join and understand the association. Also, it lets more people feel the difference between indie bookstores and online bookstores. By all the efforts we made for this topic, we hope to let more people know about the beauty of indie bookstores. We also hope independent bookstores association can continue to expand in the future, so that everyone can enjoy the uniqueness of the independent bookstores.

This project on Taiwan Association of Independent Bookshop Culture has brought much joy and many challenges to overcome in the process. I set out to learn html5 and CSS from scratch over the course of 6 months in order to build a well designed website for our content to be placed in. I’d never thought learning the skill to make a functioning webpage by myself would be achievable, but as I explored the world of html, I found it to be quite interesting! The seemingly tiring chore turned into an enjoyable hobby that I will continue to work with. Other than handling all of our team’s technical needs, I also translated the team’s hard work in researching into english for the international ocmpetition, in which I discovered the difference not only between languages but also between the culture that each language embodies to be fascinating. This event is definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience that keeps giving more and more. It may have even pointed me in the major that I will work towards in the near future!

After joined into this group, I learned many things. Especially from the topic this year, I learned about the special culture of independent bookstore. Before we start to research, we had no idea about what an independent bookstore is, we can only tell that it’s a bookstore by looking at the name. However, after understanding the topic, I found out that there’s a lot of difference between normal bookstore and independent bookstore. Futhermore, comparing an indepent bookstore to a normal bookstore, indepent bookstores feels more personal. Also, we have to thank Mr. Chen by helping us and agreeing for us to do an interview with him. Mr. Chen led us understand more about the culture of independent bookstores. I learned a lot of things from this experience. Also, I want to thank my team members for helping each other, we can’t have this kind of achivement without them.

At the beginning of the club time, the class is totally different to what I expect. But I only spent a little time to adapt it. Although during the class we faced many difficulties, but we will work together to overcome every problem we faced. I also learned many knowledge that I’ve never learned before; such as, what is independent bookstore. Before, I used to know that it was similar to any other bookstore like Books or Eslite. It was also a rare chance to have Mr. Chen interviewed. During the interview, I also very appreciate our classmate David Guo. He provided some of the needy equipment and helped us to film the video. If I did not join this club, I will never touch these. I hope I can spread the idea off independent bookshop by joining this club.

This is the second time I joined Cyber Fair Competition, our member has changed a lot then before, but it did not effact our group work. We work with well cooperation to have high effciency to make a best product. Our topic for this time is Indipendent bookshop. At first, i have totally no idea about what is independent bookshop. After we finished the interviewing with Mr. Chen, he teach us what is indipendent bookshop and why did he start the indipendent bookshop. Mr.Chen shows us his passion for the bookstore. The bookstore is a non-profit organisation. He spent lots of money to let everyone know what is indipendent bookstore, how improtant it is.

This cyber fair competition let me know about Taiwan’s love. It let me know that Taiwan is a place full of warm. Through the competition, I found a lot of information on the internet and also analyzed our questions from out interview with Mr. Chen. With these information, I understand the purpose and characteristics of independent bookstore. Also, I realized that teamwork is very important. This competition cannot be finished by one person. I believed these results can only done by the power of teamwork. Everyone in the team is very hard working, so the results are very good. I think this competition is very meaningful. It let me understand all kinds of things.

Before entering this competition, I didn’t think that it would have such a huge impact on me. However, it completely changed my perspective in life. From organizing the information and translating to helping my teammates, I learned that preparation is the key to everything. Other than honing my organizational skills, my english skills were also put to the test. I helped with the translation of Chinese content into English. There were numerous times when words or sayings in one language don’t have an equivalent in the other one, which were the challenges that I faced. In the end, I completed my task by means of researching about idiomatic expressions and much more. And now I could proudly say that this project not only helped me gain experience in multiple areas, but made me become a more responsible human being.

Lien, Margaret

Entering the cyber fair competition, I did not really understand anything because I was new to the club. Even though my Chinese is bad, I still tried my best to help everyone. Everyone is really nice to me. Every time I see them working, it makes me want to help them more. Even though I do not know Chinese, I still helped with the HTML and CSS coding for the website. Once I learnt about the independent bookstore, I was very surprised because I did not even know that the independent bookstore existed! The independent bookstore is a type of small bookstore compared to others, not only that, it has tons of different types of cultures. Even though it is small, it is a very special bookstore. Because of it being so independent, the popularity of independent bookstores are gradually decreasing. So I hope that people would know more about the independent bookstore to support them.

Chiang, Hung-Wei

Throughout this cyber fair competition, I learnt a lot about bookstores, especially independent bookstores. This cyber fair gave me an unique chance to learn about the independent bookstore industry, which I really appreciate. Nowadays, people rarely know anything about independent bookstores. Along with my teammates, we learnt and understood how independent bookstores work and how people manage independent bookstores. Moreover, Director Chen told us how hard and complicated it is to successfully manage an independent bookstore.

Chiang, Yi-Rui

This is my first time I joined Cyber Fair Competition, before I join this club I do not know what is this about? What do we need to discover? I came to this club so sudden, and everyone treat me well. They curefully explain to me what kind of club is this. From this activities I totally learned that working together as a group is an important thing. Everyone has their own work that need to be complete, each of us finish their work and so we finished our work before the due date. For example, the topic that we are discover, the independent bookstore. This is a topic that never notice before, but through this club I totally understand what independent bookstore is and how important it is.

Huang, Hsin-Ju

This is my first time to enter the cyber fair competition. Every one is really nice to me. My job is to find the information of some independent bookstores. Although this job is just a small part of the whole project, every one’s work combined together will have a good result. Before I join the cyber fair competition, I have never heard of independent bookstores. Now, after knowing what Mr. Chen thought about independent bookstores, I found out that there are many independent bookstores in Taiwan. I would share the information about independent bookstores to my friends and family. The cyber fair competition could only be done with a great leader and teammates. If every one cooperates, then everything could be done.

Chang, Hao-Pu

As a person that joined the Cyberfair club late, I felt like I was at a disadvantage when it came to researching and understanding the topic. However, after interviewing Mr.Chen of the Taiwan Association of Independent Bookshop Culture and communicating with the members of my team, I fitted right into the group and dived into the action. I think the hardest part of this project was meeting all of the deadlines. We try to make our website as filled with interesting content as possible while another member worked tirelessly to construct a beautiful looking website. This competition taught me to be better organised and the importance of finishing tasks as early as possible. All in all, I had an amazing time collaborating with people from different classes to meet the same goal, and I would most definitely participate again in an event like this if given the chance.
