Mr. Chen Qing-an, 68years old, the manager of Beitou Guli Tiles Lted. Chen has devoted himself in this industry for 5 decades. He knows very well about the pottery industry in Beitou. Through the interview, we know that in old days it is not an easy job for making pottery. Pottery workers had to wear linen clothes for protecting skin from heat. With not much electrical machine, all the work had to be done by hand. He tells us that there was a Taiwan Mineral Company in Sec. 1 and Sec.2, Zhongyang N. Rd. Beitou District. It had factories for manufacturing pottery, porcelain, and fire preventing tiles. In Qiyan Village, there was a square kiln. However, the place had been replaced by modern building, we could no longer see those ruins. Mr. Chen says the rise of pottery and porcelain industry in Mainland China is also a factor that Beitou had gradually lost its superiority.
