Stories of Si-Si Nan Cun

( III ) Project Elements

*How the research project combines with the Nine-Year Integrated Curriculums:

Fields of the Nine-Year Integrated Curriculums The Combination
On the Field of Language Arts Our abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing are enhanced through the interviews with former residents of the Village.
On the Field of Mathematics We learned how to present the results of the questionnaire with a pie chart which shows the different proportion of answers. Besides, we learned the area unit “ping” and used it to describe the size of living area for the villagers.
On the Field of Integrative Activities We learned more about the life in the Forty-Four South Village through aspects of ffood, clothing, housing, transportation, education, and entertainment.
On the Field of Arts and Humanities Through photographs about the Forty-Four South Village, we grasped the architectural beauty of the Village, and we also acquainted ourselves with a wide range of cultural activities which are currently promoted by Xinyi Public Assembly Hall.
On the Field of Health and Physical Education Each time we visited the Forty-Four South Village, which is filled with the beauty of military dependents’ villages, we walked there from our school, and that made us physically and mentally refreshed.
On the Field of Science and Technology We learned about the weapon producing history of the Forty-fourth Arsenal and the dangers of guns and ammunition. Furthermore, our abilities of operating relevant software, including skills of word processing, drawing, illustrating, audio and video clips making, were enhanced through the web page production process.

*The information tools & technologies we used to complete the Cyberfair project:

We used digital cameras with filming function, pen recorders, cellphones, and computer software such as web page designing, graphics illustrating, audio, video and word processing programs. The Internet resource played an important role. Our web page was mainly designed with Dreamweaver, and images were retouched and edited with Paint, PhotoCap6.0, and Inkscape as well as Microsoft Office Picture Manager. As for gif animations, we used the online tool “http://gifmake.com.” Flash animations were made with Flash Slideshow Maker to make the web page vivid and vigorous. We also use the Facebook, e-mail and Line, a mobile communication app, to contact for ongoing consultation with one another on the Forty-Four South Village web page proofreading work.

*How do you play the role as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your Cyberfair project both online and in person?

To be concerned with the local history and lives, we are playing the role as “throwing a sprat to catch a whale.” We want more people to know about the history of the Village, and hope that more people would devote themselves to the cultural and historic work for the Forty-Four South Village.

* What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Si-Si Nan Cun was a historic product of the merciless war. The tough life the Villagers had is an epitome of military dependents’ village life in Taiwan, and it’s totally unimaginable for people who live in the present peaceful, rich and carefree age.

* With Respect to the Intellectual Property Rights and the References

Most of the images we used were taken by our teacher and team members. With respect to the old photos of the Village, they were provided by Xinyi District Office, Chen Ching Hsiang from Nan Cun Culture Office, and Weixuan’s grandfather. They have kindly agreed to let us use the photos for free. We clearly marked each photo at the bottom with its source. Si-Si Dragon news video is used after we wrote a letter to the Film Archive and obtained the permission for free use. As for the old maps and aerial photographs from the Internet, the sources are also clearly indicated.

* Our Discoveries

the Forty-Four South Village is a part of the Combined Logistics Command (CSC) military dependents’ villages. In addition to the CSC villages, there were also villages of the Navy, Army, Air Force, Reserve, Military Police, and Military Intelligence etc.. There had been at least 135 military dependents’ villages in Taipei City, but the historic remains of them are only conserved in the Forty-Four South Village and Treasures Rock.
