The Feline Authority: Doctor Cat
Introduction: Doctor Cat (Chen-Yi, Lin) is the Dean of Chung-shan Animal Hospital in Taipei. He is also the executive councilor of Taipei Veterinarian Association, the member of AAFP, and the councilor of Little Animal Medical Department Association.
Q: Why do you want to be a vet? How long have you been a vet?
A: I have always loved cats since I was a kid, so I tried hard to become a vet. I have done my job for almost 20 years.
Q: What do you think about being a vet for so many years?
A: This is a career which takes plenty of time and effort. You will feel the stress all the time, no matter physically and mentally.
Q: Among all the treatments, is there anything impressive for you?
A: Well, facing the newborn and the dying is like seeing the circle of life. Seeing how many people value cats’ lives with money especially makes me feel sad.
Q: Do you feel nervous when you do the ligation and operation for your own cats?
A: For my own cats, just because of my special concern, I do all the big operations by myself.
Q: What are the common diseases of cats?
A: Well, the upper respiratory tract infection, mold infection, chronic renal failure, fatty liver, and urinary tract disease are the most common diseases for cats.
Q: Is there fatal disease for cats?
A: AIDS and leukemia are among the worst, and they are getting more and more for cats.
Q: What do you think about the genetic defects of the folds cats?
A: Please try to avoid inbreeding and mating between the folds cats.
Q: As an experienced vet, you have treated all kinds of cats and dogs. What do you think is the biggest difference between these two animals?
A: You have to be tender when treating cats. They dislike people being rude.
Q: What do you think about cats?
A: They have perfect contour. They are mysterious and elegant
Q: If there is a cat resting on your hood, what will you do?
A: Well, you start the engine and it will leave. Or you could just clap, it will run away soon.
