1. Inviting interviewees to join this
project
For every visit, we always use telephone
and email to contact them beforehand,
expressing our purpose and the activity
weˇ¦re going to do. All of them are
really kindly greeting and supporting
us. The chairman and general manager of
Want Taiwan Cultural Environment
Foundation patiently arrange appointment
meeting us. They even study our
questions first and prepare information,
books, photos and real samples (such as
bricks) to explain to us during
interviews. The shop keeper of Island
café preserves his precious lunch hours
only for us to enjoy the meal and bathe
in the beautiful building and history.
Just to name a few only. With so much
help from these people, we hope one day
we could do the same to give back to the
society. They all think weˇ¦re doing
something meaningful to help more people
understand the importance of historical
buildings and not to think of tearing
them down.
2. Demonstrating the glamour and
meanings of historical buildings through
web pages
We are very pleased and thankful for
living in a modern city with diversified
historical buildings. We hope to take
this project to help citizens learn
appreciating the history and historical
meanings this antique architectures
carrying. If we learn more about these
historical buildings, we will have more
chances to give them new lives and add
more colors to our city.

What are the influence and impact
brought to the neighborhood by this project?
|
1. Starting from school, we step out to
care for the community that we live in,
pat attention to the streets and stores
in the neighborhood, and learn about the
uniqueness of the local area. With every
discovery of the stories of these
buildings in Dadaocheng and Zhongshan
north road, we try to provoke the sense
of identity for local residents. One
studentˇ¦s grandfather was so excited
hearing about our visit to island café,
he kept telling all the old stories
around this place for an hour.
2. Understanding the importance of
historical buildings and making efforts
to protect them: Students of Rixing
Primary School have great advantages of
living in a neighborhood with lots of
historical architectures and cultures.
These are the legacy handed down to
every of us.

other people from Want Taiwan Cultural
Environment Foundation for taking

handcrafts for us, spare their precious
lunch hours greeting us, teach us to
make our very first cake and cookies,
show us how to prepare food, and
introduce us to many stories of their
stores and buildings. We receive so much

Intellectual property descriptions
of contents used in website
|
1. Text material
We read through many articles written
about the Red House and historical
buildings in Datong district. Also, we
search for lots of official sites and
personal blogs of historical buildings.
After thoroughly reading these
materials, we compile them with our own
words. The books and websites referenced
are listed in bibliography. Besides, the
content of interviews are dictated by
ourselves. Questionnaires are listed by
us too.
2. Photos and recording
Pictures are taken with digital cameras
and DVs with each activity. The usage of
these images are authorized and approved
by persons involved. Some photos are
provided by persons involved and noted
in web pages with appreciation.

What are
the influence and impact brought by this project?
|
This project helps us understand more
about our school and the historical
buildings in our neighborhood. For the
reason of preparing and executing
interviews, we learn more etiquettes
about interacting with other people and
the importance of prior preparation.
Learning isnˇ¦t just about the things we
study inside classrooms. Itˇ¦s also about
what we could get outside classrooms. We
also learn to appreciate the efforts
other people make to help us understand
so many things. We believe through these
web pages, more people will know about
the importance of preserving historical
buildings around them.

Discovery, lessons and surprises
|
Under the guidance of teacher and help
of all these people in our neighborhood,
we gradually know about knowledge about
historical buildings in Taipei. As long
as we get close to these buildings and
are willing to listen to theirs stories,
we are able to understand their value.
They arenˇ¦t just ruins to be torn down,
but are interesting historical story
books waiting for us to open them.
During the process, we understand the
importance to preserve historical
buildings. If you tear them down, there
is no chance theyˇ¦re ever coming back
again. |
