Losheng community school

How did your activities and research for this International Schools CyberFair project support content standards, required coursework and curriculum requirements?

This project makes us understand many things besides textbook and we know more about Hansen's disease, dorm of Losheng, community school, Losheng's history and events. In addition, we also attend the activity of the experience of disabled persons. To experience residents’ problems of how to drink water, wear clothes and walk by using a stick and to understand the inconvenience at their lives. Besides, we also learned how to interview people. We really can't learn these things at school.

In what ways did your students act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your Cyberfair project both on-line and in person.

Our instructor help us contact the community schools' teachers and volunteer workers. Also, we interview them and get the first hand data about the Losheng nowadays. We hope our project and web sites can make more and more people know about Losheng, rather than misunderstanding these residents.

To understand the residents' life, we also participate the activity of the disabled persons' experience and antique market. We record it in details and hope everyone can know this unforgotten paradise.

What has been or will be the impact of your project on your community?

Joining this project let us know more about Losheng and Losheng community school. When we walk out of the classroom to learn, we can learn more useful knowledge. We also found many people; NGO team and Youth Alliance help these residents' all the time. That makes us feel touched. In the process of research, we also learn the power of teamwork. Human can't live without others. Many things must work together. Thanks to many volunteers and teachers for helping us with the interview. We really can't make this project come true without them. We also hope more and more people could know this touching place.

How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers? Most Cyberfair teams need lots of advice and help to complete their entry... did yours???

In the beginning, we know about Losheng from teacher introduction and the Internet. In the process of visiting Losheng, we met many volunteers who were enthusiastic and willing to accept our interview. They supplied many contents about Losheng and we turned them into websites. We also visited many residents who lived there. Talking with them is a joyful thing. Although the construction of MRT continued, they were still optimistic and welcomed us.

To know more about residents' living, we took part in the Experience of disabled activity and the second hand sale were planned by volunteers of Losheng. After participating it, we learned more and felt touched.

Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (optional)

When we walked in the community school, it made me feel fresh. Though there were some shabby buildings, however, we feel it's a nice place. Despite the residents are disabled people, they are all very nice to us. This place has everything that we lack around us, the big trees, the green land and the nice people.

In the period of time, we've learned a lot of knowledge about the leprosy's disease and the historical background of the sanatorium. From the interview, we also feel the frustration and neglect they have suffered. For those old residents who have considered this place as their home, it is really a sad thing to see their own home being tore down and forced to leave their beloved homeland.

We all hope that Losheng could get more recognition. More and more people could visit our websites and know more about this beautiful paradise.
