History

LungShan Temple is located in Taipei's Wanhua(Manka) District in Taiwan, and has been designated as a Class 2 Historical Site. It is the most ornate temple in all of Southeast Asia. There's an interesting story behind the establishment of LungShan Temple. 

According to local legend, the temple owes its location to an absent-minded riverman who one day left behind an amulet the "Scent bags" in a bamboo forest. How could a little thing like that lead to the establishment of LungShan Temple?

Grandma says : The word "Lung" means "Dragon" and "Shan" means "mountains" in Chinese and  the dragon is very special to the Chinese people. It has served as a sort of totem throughout our history. It is the greatest and most auspicious of all our mythical beasts, and legends about it are too numerous to count. As a beast of enormous strength, it came to be used as symbol of imperial authority, and eventually acquired totemic significance.
