Visited Mayor Hsieh Shu-Ya to discuss Douliu Tourism

Time:December 4, 2014
Place:Douliu District Hall

If you come from your hometown, you should know everything about it. Students from Victoria Academy visited the District Hall in Douliu. Mayor Hsieh told the students lots of stories about Douliu and introduced local agricultural products, helping them to better understand Douliu. She hoped children could learn more about their hometown. Even though many any of them will study in other places in the future, they should also know how to introduce their hometown to other people.
(Hsieh, Shu-Ya)

Mayor Hsieh would like each resident to feel like at home in Douliu. Though it is important to develop tourism, Douliu residents’ understanding and living benefits are always the top priority compared to the development of city tourism. She pointed out that even though everyone reckons Douliu is a suitable living place, the tourism industry is also spontaneously well-developed. Furthermore, it is so essential that Douliu kids should experience this in person, for example, arranging farmers to teach them about agricultural products and farming-related knowledge.

Mayor Hsieh said that, “Starting with nothing, we take a silk thread, stringing up a variety of pearls, each pearl representing a part of Douliu. This beautiful necklace represents the beauty of our hometown. To string Douliu sightseeing resources as a pearl necklace, there are lots of promotional activities of agricultural products held in Douliu, such as the Pomelo Festival, the Sponge Cucumber Festival. These festivals attract streams of tourists. Agricultural souvenirs are definitely indispensable. In order to market Douliu agricultural specialties, it is necessary to create different flavors, such as orange candies and orange cakes. Moreover, with the assistance of Yun-Tech University students, the products are all well-designed and delicately packed to promote local characteristics andfeatures.”

Mayor Hsieh believed that Douliu will become better and prettier if Douliu people are friendlier, its products richer, the sceneries more variable, and if the environment becomes cleaner. Mayor Hsieh would like Douliu residents to possess a better life quality in a non-polluted environment, with positively advancing Happy Buses, a public transportation system, electric vehicles, and cycling exercises, to allow Douliu residents to enjoy traffic conveniences and low emissions of Carbon dioxide.

Mayor Hsieh valued the Green sightseeing of Hu-Shan Dam, which was the first reservoir in Yunlin County. Marathons are held there every now and then, but not frequently enough. The students suggested sustainable tourism be maintained, regarding Hu-Shan Li as the backyard of Douliu so that Hu-Shan ecology and local features would arouse tourists’ curiosity to the local warmness and friendliness.

Single Cycling Lanes in Douliu
At present in Douliu, there are several single cycling lanes around Yun-Tech University, TransWorld University, and Victoria Academy, but most of them are not long enough. “We” suggested Douliu be built with bikeways around the whole city. Mayor Hsieh reckoned it was fantastic advice. She would invite the residents to canvass various opinions and benefits from them, together designing more suitable and safer cycling routes.
