2. Description of "Our Community":
[Brief Introduction]
Most people think Tianmu is a rich community, full of
high-class boutiques and shops with an exotic atmosphere; indeed, Tianmu, is
also the greenest place in Taipei city. Everywhere is filled with green,
including Chungcheng business circle, Tianmu Sports Park, Tianmu Park of
Zhongshan N. Road Section 7, and the further Tianmu Ancient Trail, as well as
Zhishan Ecological Park near MRT Zhishan Station. Tianmu business circle is
indeed a green land. With its continuous development, it did not diminish the
living quality of the neighborhood; instead, it brought in the diversity of
recreational activities to the neighborhood residents and attracts lot of
tourists. Additionally, there are twelve administrative districts in Taipei,
and Tianmu is within the area of Shilin District, which owns a hot spring
source of the Datun Volcano Group. For instance, the hot springs on Xingyi Road
come from Longfeng Valley, also known as Dahuangzui, where Yong-he Yu has
exploited sulfur in Qin Dynasty. Also, Tianmu business circle is close to
Beitou hot spring and Shilin Night Market and leads to Yangmingshan. In
addition to its own natural landscape and humanistic background, Tianmu
business circle is an ideal place for a city tour for tourists during the
weekends.
[Convenient Transportation]
Even though there is no direct access to Taipei MRT,
there are intensive transfer bus services provided from Tianmu to MRT Zhishan
Station, and MRT Shipai Station. Moreover, many department stores, such as
Dayeh Takashimaya Department Store and Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store,
also provide shuttle bus services. The Tianmu area and the MRT system have
built a dense and smooth transportation network. It takes no more than ten
minutes to take buses from these MRT stations to Tianmu business circle, which
is near Tianmu Sports Park. You can take Zhongshan N. Road, from the park, and
walk to the business circle of Zhongshan N. Road Section 7 and the entrance of
Tianmu Ancient Trail.
3. Summary of Our Project:
In the discussion
for choosing the topic of Cyberfair project, we all agreed with the idea of
knowing your hometown and neighborhood, mentioned in the curriculum of social
studies and school standards. Therefore, we hope, through the study for the
Cyberfair project, to have more understanding of the tourism spots and
resources around our school and then introduce to the tourists interested in
our area.
4. Our Computer and Internet Access:
1) School Internet Environment
Currently, the school Internet uses the optical fiber of
100MB. There are two computer labs, with Windows 7. All classrooms have
computers, and the special subject rooms have computers and Internet access.
Besides, the students can search information online in the library and
multi-media room.
2) Home Internet Environment
The team members have broadband width Internet access at
home. The advising teacher set up a hard drive space at school for the
Cyberfair project, so that the members can upload the produced pictures and
webpages.
5. Problems We Had To Overcome:
We have
encountered some problems during the process of collecting information, on-site
interviews and visits, and making the website. Originally, we thought it would
be very easy to implement after the discussion. However, when we started a
discussion, we found out that everyone had his or her own opinion, so it was
very difficult to form a solution that could satisfy everyone. Moreover, when
implementing it, we found an even taller wall blocking our way!
Problems
|
Methods to Overcome
|
█ Limited Time Available to All:
Besides schoolwork, most of the members have to
participate in daycare programs, school clubs, or other extracurricular
activities. It’s very hard to find a time available for everyone.
|
1) Utilize lunch breaks: We met at lunch breaks on
Tuesdays and Thursdays for discussions to overcome the problem.
2) Utilize Wednesday afternoons: There is no
school on Wednesday afternoons. Almost all members could go out for visits
and interviews.
3) Utilize Winter break: There was no school, and
all members could meet to take action.
|
█ Limited Capabilities of Computer:
The members are 4th or 5th
graders, with limited capabilities of computer, so they encountered lots of
difficulties in making webpages and processing images.
|
Use school resources: The advising teacher
made a schedule to teach the students step by step, which improved their
capabilities of using computer and building webpages.
|
█ Limited Teamwork Experience:
The members did not have teamwork experience, and
did not know how to efficiently discuss and reasonably distribute work, which
resulted in the waste of time and quite a few arguments.
|
1) We created a learning sheet for each meeting,
which includes the discussion items, learning progress, and webpage
production progress, so that the team members could gradually work out a
solution for each problem.
2) The advising teacher stepped in at the right
moment to reduce the conflicts and inefficiency.
