The paradise for waterbird

Apart from abundant ocean resources, Fubao Wetland owns multiple wetland environment containing fishpond, paddy field and tidal zone. It’s on the migratory route of east Asian birds, so there are lots of birds flying between the north and south. Besides, there is plenty of food here and an eco-park providing them comfortable environment. Thus it becomes a paradise for birds.

Himantopus

Vulgo: Red-footed bird, long pink feet, walks like stiltwalkers, breed in April till June, live in groups, often seen in fishpond and estuary, an ethnic group has already settled in Fubao Wetland, can be seen all the years.

 

Charadrius dubius

Beautiful golden eye sockets, live alone or in small groups; strong vigilance, stir the plankton in water and make them surface when foraging, often seen in grassy marsh and farmland.

 

Painted Snipe

Elegant action, live secretively, active at dawn, dusk and in the night, crouch in grass when frightened, different from other birds-the lady birds have vivid feather, polygamy, the cocks incubate and look after the baby birds.

 

Gallinula chloropus

Timid by nature, good at swimming, seldom fly, fight for mate or domain in the mating season and appear in grassy marsh, swamp, farmland, pond, lake and river.

 

Wood Sandpiper

Gray upper body with fine black spots, live in groups, bob the tail when having a rest, often be seen in paddy field and grassy marsh.

 

Anas crecca

With green wing mirror when flying and is often seen as a group on the water. It flies away immediately from the water when disturbed and is often seen at estuary and lake.

Little egrect

It is commonly known as white-feathering egret, which is snow-white all over the body, with black mouth and feet. It is seen in groups at estuary, swamp and fishpond when the tide ebbing, alert by nature, hard to approach.

Northern Lapwing

Black mouth, hard red feet, a pinch of black crest at back, often appear in open dry farmland and paddy field in small groups, frighten insects by walking slowly and patting the land by feet, feed on aquatic insects and mollusc, act elegantly when foraging.

Whimbrel

Long decurved mouth, red flesh at the bottom of the mouth, sandy beige from the head to the neck, black brown at the back, white feather edge, appear near the coast alone or in small groups, walk slowly when foraging, insert the decurved mouth into the mudbank, forage over walking, feed on crab, spiral shell and mollusc.

Common Redshank

It is with black mouth, red at the bottom, red feet which turn orange in winter and is always seen at the beach and estuary alone or in small groups, living on crab, crustacean and mollusc.

Night heron

It is commonly known as luminous bird, with black head and back, dark red eyes, white stomach and is often seen at the estuary and fishpond, often stand on the projecting deadman and tone quietly to wait for fish and shrimp to approach and then peck them.

Kentish Plover

Similar to charadrius dubius, the surround of neck is narrow and not linked at foreneck, fly in groups to tidal zone to forage when tide ebbing, fly in groups to fishpond to rest when tide flooding, general migratory bird.
