Carbon Dioxide Reduction

The main body of Taipei Public Library Beitou Branch is mainly constructed by steel and high latitude woods, rather than reinforced concrete. 79.31% of the building applies the lightweight design to build the light partition wall. Part of the external walls were built by kiln-burnt granite recycled bricks. It’s a library with simple architectural model, while at the same time achieving the reduction of building energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.

Waste Reduction

During the construction of Taipei Public Library Beitou Branch, small demolition and backfilling were carried out to balance the earthwork. Later, surface leveling and afforestation were conducted. Woods being the primal building material allows people to reuse them after the dismantling, and thus reduces the construction waste. In addition, many dust control measures were practiced in order to prevent the air pollution during construction, for example, dust-proof paving, dust cover, cleaning measures and so on.
