Stories of Jiancheng Circle
|
Hello! Please allow me introducing myself. I used to be a really
big park, where people liked to gather here chatting and
playing chess after work. I loved to listen to peopleˇ¦s
stories too. Later on, because more and more people
gathered here, some food stands started to show up.
During the most prosperous era, there were over 100 food
stands here. I am so glad to be the Jiancheng Circle
because I could smell the wonderful aroma of food. After
the construction of Taipei Train Station, being not far
from here, here was almost the first stop for people
moving from south of Taiwan. At that time, the whole
area including Taipei Train Station surrounding area,
NingXia night market and Chongqing north road (all the
way to Taipei Bridge) was a super jumbo business center,
where all the food stands were open 24 hours a day! As a
result, when it comes to the history of this area, of
course I am the leading role. Even until today, there
still are a lot of delicious food to be found here!

History of Jiancheng Circle: |
1. During the Japanese colonial period, this place was
planned to be a park with lots of trees. Gradually,
because more and more peopleˇ¦s gathering, food stands
started to gather and turned into a prosperous night
market.
2. During the World War II, Japanese army changed the
park into a big hole, using it as a reservoir. Thus, the
night market disappeared. After the war, reservoir was
leveled up, food stands came back again and grew into a
giant night market area. At the time, Jiancheng Circle
was the place that every tourist must visit in Taipei.
3. Unfortunately, later on 1993 and 1999 fire accidents
attacked Jiancheng Circle, it was deserted over a
decade. Some of the food stands there moved to Chongjing
north road to reopen. On 2002, the Jiancheng Circle was
rebuilt with a brand new look.
