United Daily News February 16th, 2006

The Kyoto Protocol has been entered into force for one year today. Both in Yunlin county, and Tainan city, environmental groups held rallies. Yunlin's Transworld Institute of Technology assistant professor Chang Chi Gian led 6 university students yesterday on a naked swim. Tainan County and City environmental unions also announced anti-Binnan statements, and had skits to reinforce their statement on anti-Binnan cases, anti-steel making industries, and anti-petrochemical industries.

The naked swim students covered their private parts with banners, and wrote on their backs, "No Ba Ching Da Steel Making Industires", then jumped into the ocean together. Last year, on Feb 15th, these six students also protested naked in front of the Executive Yuan, causing a sensation.

Professor Chang explains, the Kyoto Protocol has been in force for a year, but the Environmental Protection Administration has approved the Binnan Industrial Areas environmental assessment, and the Ba Ching Da Steel Making Plants are still in movement. In addition, the Executive Yuan interfered with rising oil prices, violating liberal principles of energy industries, and missing a chance to effectively lower the emission of greenhouse gases, raising dissatisfaction among environmental groups. Tainan County and City's environmentalists used a skit named "Seven Streams of Smoke-The Spoonbill is Mad", to show that steel making industries and petrochemical industries will kill spoonbills, are a threat to the Chigu Lagoon ecology and coastal scenery, speed up global warming, and are the cause of floods. The Tainan City Environmental Union's president An Diaw Hwang said that besides presenting the Binnan case's assessment fault plead, they would take action to protect the Chigu coastlines.

Figure:Linda

Amada:There's only one Earth, and we can't have another one, so we should care and protect it.
Coco:Not only should we realize it, we should do something! Let's save the Earth. I'll encourage you, and u can help Taiwan!

Cindy:We should protect the Earth, and not let it get sick.
Sandy:Instead of just talking about protecting the earth, we should act right now! The first thing we can do is drive less. If it's too far to walk, too tiring to run, we can ride bikes. This will lower carbon dioxide and relax our body. With these efforts, the Earth can become healthy and active like it use to be!

Ben:Let's all become children of Earth, let it be clean and beautiful, and be the most beautiful planet in the universe.
Jacky:
Let's fight together and lower the greenhouse effect!
Tom:Beautiful Earth shouldn't be abused like it is now! Let's all work together!

Amy:We can't just sit and wait. We need to lower the greenhouse effect!
Henrry:Saving the Earth is the job of everyone who lives on this land, we should be responsible and work together! If we start now we can still save it!

Regina:The Earth is ours, and we need to protect it!
Wendy:
Everyone's projects are unique, we need to inspect and learn!
Ruby:That's right! For the sake of Earth, let's work together to lower the amount of greenhouse gases!
