¡» How did your activities and research for this International Schools CyberFair project support content standards, required coursework and curriculum requirements?

The study plan participation enabled teachers to enhance professional knowledge and skills so that students can be guided through. Children also understood that it was only with continual discussion and collaboration could the study be completed. They also understood the importance of group work. Student learning changed from passive knowledge acquisition to active knowledge construction. Interests and capabilities were fully explored and cultivated.
Topic study is a type of topic or integrative learning. It easily combines with different learning areas. For instance, we have learned about simple function use and chart production in EXCEL at information class. (Tainan County Joint Program Test questions) This time, we compared tabulated statistical data on the government website with the rice production volume and annual rice consumption in Taiwan per person in the various towns and townships of Tainan County. Discussions have been made on the significances of these tables and charts. This type of activity could also be coordinated with ¡§Statistics¡¨ in math class. All in all, the course of this topic study has intangibly integrated knowledge in respective academics.

ùþWhat skills have you learned?
1. Establish interview skills: during topic interview, data has to be collected in advance. Questions have to be first formulated in order to ensure the visitation will be a fruitful one. After the visitation, the interview process should be recorded within a day or two to avoid memory loss on details. The recorded data serves as important reference for future webpage production.
2. Good use of internet resources: numerous data can be obtained from the internet but it has to be verified first before adoption. In addition, the government has posted numerous statistical data on the internet. Take Agriculture and Food Agency, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan has setup a webpage for statistical data inquiry. Just key in the year and past data from that particular year come out. It is really convenient.

ùþWhat ideals and methods related to teamwork have you implemented or practiced?
Our school is rather small. There are only 7 people in our class so we all work together to do things or join contests. No one feels left out or slacks off. Everyone participated throughout the contest process stages. Labor division was conducted such as taking turns to write journals, and each person is in charge of a separate statistical chart. The work load therefore reduced.

ùþWhat specific concepts have you realized or clearly understood?
In the rice town, rice fields are seen just beside the school or home. Some people¡¦s grandfathers or fathers are farmers. Everyone is familiar with the rice production process, but most are unsure about how rice is processed and sold after harvest. Through this study, we have attained better understanding of the post-processing of rice and sales. We realized that it takes as much hard work to sell rice as it is to plant it. We also realized the importance of ¡§reputation¡¨ and ¡§brand creation.¡¨

ùþHow is this topic study plan integrated with the school or class needs?
We have been conducting the topic study in conjuction with Cyberfair for 5 years. Topics in the past were almost always related to the humanities and customary practices of Houbi Township. The topic for this year is no exception. It covered Lian-Fa Rice Milling Factory, and introduction of rice milling industry, sales and production. Just like website works in the previous years, webpage topic content not only helped everyone to get an insight on their homes, it also serves as reference for other subject teaching.

ùþ During the study process, did you discover problems related to the existing education system?
Language is the foundation of all activities or curriculums. Theorizing curriculum categorization is very complex. Mandarin curriculum allotment has reduced sharply. This resulted to the lack of writing abilities on the part of the student. It in a way affected on our topic study conduction.

ùþWhat role does your school play locally?
Through topic and website establishment, we hope to provide everyone more knowledge on Houbi Township and the rice milling industry. On the other hand, this activity holding has also helped strengthen school features and student capabilities. Local residents will be able to participate in urban school activities even if they are in a school in the country.

ùþIs internet teaching and learning more efficient than traditional methods? Please explain.
The internet is very convenient. Much information can be obtained from it. For example, one had to go to the library to copy statistical data in the past. Now, all he has to do is to download it from the internet. It is time saving. By using the search function, related data pop out. One no loner browses through books one by one. However, although the internet provisions a great abundance of data, they may be repeated and data is not necessarily correct. Careful examination before hand is essential.

¡»In what ways did your students act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your International Schools CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

In the recent year or two, rice of Houbi Township has grown popular. Other than the dream beauty of Lian-Fa, Cun-Bing-Bo the neighboring village, also won the national champion rice title. The local people have shown great approval for our topic study. We were also keen on conducting field trips. Besides, proprietors of Yi-chan Rice Milling Factory, and Lian-fa Rice Milling Factory allowed us to visit on site and provided us with a lot of precious data. Our study would have not been possible without them.

¡»What has been or will be the impact of your project on your community?

We have engaged in rural webpage topic study for years. From the earliest Hsin-Chia Village, school Sung-Jiang-Chen, Wu-Shu-Lin Sugar Facotry, major Houbi Township Temples-Tan An Temple, and Sheng Chung Temple, to Orchid Biological Technology Park, each is closely related to Houbi Township. Days ago, Houbi Township Office wrote to us and requested to post our school data on its website. We consider it a kind of recognition encouragement. This year, we engage in the most representative homeland industrial walk of life- Rice Factory Study. Hopefully, a complete set of Houbi Township Humanitarian, historical and geographic data will serve as reference for teachers during homeland teaching.
