Different from Taitung Guan Shan Rice, Hualien Fu Li Rice entered the group food market in Japan with the assistance of Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan. Lian-Fa Rice Milling Factory chose to work with Japanese companies in cultivating Japanese rice crops to be sold back in Japan. By use of traditional rice store approaches in Japan, the retail market was targeted to lead to Japanese families.
　
◆《Encounter process》
Chairman Chen Shui Sheng of Lian-Fa told us that in 2004 when the rice factory was still undergoing transformation, he constantly thought about ways to increase tillage area production value [note: not production volume!] Later, with recommendations of traders, “Yume Ka Ori”seeds 〔Chinese name: Dream Beauty〕were purchased from Nakashimamio Shoutenn which were to be planted in Taiwan. At the time, 1kg of seeds cost NT$4,000. They were extremely costly but the chairman bought 15kg of them for trial planting. During the double paddy crop terms for year 2005, Lian-Fa appointed two contract rice growers and trial planted 0.8 hectares of “Yume Ka Ori.” Without technical assistance from the Japanese, “Yume Ka Ori” planting proved to be a success. The chairman said that Nakashimamio Shoutenn conducted trial planting years ago and sought collaborators. The venue selected was Taitung Chi Shang Town but the trial planting failed.
After the successful trial planting, Food and Agriculture Agency held a Taiwan-Japan Rice Interchange Cultivation Seminar. At the seminar, Lian-Fa chainman met the representative of Nakashimamio Shoutenn stationed in Taiwan and had the first official contact and interchange between both sides. With the assistance of Food and Agriculture Agency, Chinese-Japanese mutual production and sales collaboration was facilitated.
