【Time】

The Amis ritual ceremonies are usually related with life ceremony, cultivation ceremony and exorcism and praying. These rituals have gradually decreased and disappeared with the advancement of the time and the social changes. In the past, the east Amis may hold the millet harvest festival each year in July and August, nowadays the millet has been changed to rice, and therefore the harvest festival will only begin after the rice has been put into the warehouse. Harvest festival is originally each tribal activity, there is no fixed time and is decided by the harvest time of each tribe. Lately government has usually sponsored "united harvest festival," however with the stimulation of tourism offices, the tribes of Huatung Coast still hold it each year. It usually spreads from the south to the north, from the tribe in the southern area of Taitung and then one by one tribe may hold their harvest festivals, and when it reaches Hsincheng Township, it is already at the end of August or the beginning of September.
 

【Location】

Harvest festival mostly happens in the meeting place of the village or the site where tribespeople held the cultus, but currently most villages have changed the holding place to where lots of people gathered or the place where there is obvious landmark or even the playground to meet the demand of developing tourism! Jiali Village used to hold the harvest festival at the large meeting place near Tian-gong Temple, according to Chief A-mu Lin of Jiali Village, the meeting place has changed to the large meeting place near Expressway 9 for its convenient traffic condition in recent years. The following table has shown the time and location of harvest festival held by each village of Hualien County in 2006.
