Buxiban

Recently, major buxibans around the Nanyang Street have started to digitalize the teaching. Traditionally, numerous handouts and materials would be passed down to students, which, albeit convenient, could not be updated frequently and resource saving. Teaching digitalization will not only offer students up-to-date materials, but can also create online database of exam questions for their reference. Yet the huge cost brought by digitalization still serves as a key obstacle f or many buxibans, most of which still stick to the conventional teaching pedagogy.

Once teaching digitalization is put into practice, classes at buxibans will become more “user-friendly.” Walking into a major buxiban on the Nanyang Street , we are likely to see students wearing headsets and staring into the TV screen in the front. Some of them are there to review lessons they have yet to have a grasp on, and some want to make up for a class they missed. Seats are not available unless reserved. Instead of using old-time nuisance-ridden videocassettes (VHS) as recording media, many buxiba ns have adopted DVD's as the means for lesson storage on account of its high definition and large capacity. Even if students do not bother to go to the buxiban, an online make-up class of trigonometric function or Newton 's Law of Motion will simply be a few clicks away.

This innovation, though grounded on the consideration of profits, enables students to learn as they wish in diverse ways regardless of the constraint of time and space. In this way, buxibans is expanding their territory far and beyond.
