10/13 Confirming the participation of the competition. Deciding on the theme |
[Subject] Listing the participating students. Naming of the team
[Date] October 13
[Location] Conference Room
[Recorder] Guan-rong Lai
¡·Teachers: Chiu-jin Lai, Guan-rong Lai, Chia-ying Wu
After we decided on the subject matter, Teresa Teng, we examined our own capability. Teacher Lai is an intern teacher for the fourth grade and Teacher Wu is an intern teacher for the second grade. If we had picked students from our own classes, those students would have encountered tremendous difficulties in information technology. Therefore, we decided to reach out to the tutors who teach the fifth and sixth grades and whose hobbies are related to information technology.
Teacher Chiu-jin Lai showed great enthusiasm by expressing an interest in joining our team. With a record of winning a silver medal in the Teresa Teng Singing Competition, Teacher Chiu-jin Lai was a super addition to our team. Thus, we embarked on the Cyberfair journey! |

¡·Releasing Scripts:
Teresa Teng : Five Topics: Story of Her Life, Interviews, X Factory, Creative Writing & Drawing and MV.
* Interviews¡XTeresa Teng's teachers and classmates
¡· Suggestions from the teachers
Director Wu: We may interview Mr. Lian-fu Yang and Teacher Fu-yang Li. Our school has held two singing competitions and should consider doing this again this year. (We may go to ChinPoSan to interview those who visit Teresa Teng's tomb and ask them to express their thoughts)
Headmaster: We should seek the support from Parents' Community. If we plan to compete overseas, the translation and design of one piece of work would cost approximately NT$80,000. It would be difficult for the school to pay such expenses. Therefore, we should select some students whose parents are members of Parents' Community to assure future funding.
Teacher Fang-yuan Chiang
1. Uploading of the plan structures of all teams
2. Uploading of the minutes of all meetings
3. Computer Classroom d ready to install all software applications and instruct students.
4. Computer Classroom e ready to edit video clips
5. Internet bulletin board to be fully utilized
Additional Remarks from Principle Ke:
We are a novice in this game and we must cope with a steep learning curve. The focus of Cyberfair is on technical competences in Taiwan whereas that of Cyberfair overseas is on the learning process. For example, why there is a wax house, Madame Tussaude in Hong Kong ?
Boat traveling in mainland China to experience the charms of Teresa Teng's songs
Health Issue¡XTeresa died of asthma
Debate¢w We should find a judge to provide instructions and give scores.

The students would be immersed in the graceful voice of Teresa Teng and therefore, become interested in the research work.

Everybody started to log on the Internet to entry data. However, we all encountered problems. Some people did not have personal accounts. Others had never entered personal data. A large amount of time was spent on this task and assistance from the teachers was required. However, after this exercise, we all obtained our personal mail accounts. We only need to remember the account details and passwords. |
¡· Additional remarks from the teachers:
After witnessing the level of information technology competences, Teacher Lai and Teacher Wu started to worry about the potential bottleneck when it comes to web page productions.
Therefore, we sought advice from Director Wu. After Director Wu allowed us to finish our explanations, he took us to all the sixth grade classes to promote our Cyberfair activities. We issued the letters of participation intent to all the students and asked volunteer students to take the IT screening tests the next day. A total of five IT experts came out of the screening tests and they are Wen-chi Chao, Chao-yuan Lin, Si-han Wu, Shiou-hui Chen and Yi-jun Tsai. We welcome them to join our team! |

1/5 Debate |
[Subject]Debate [Date]1.5
[Recorder]Jia-ying
¡·Subject:Whether or not to preserve Teresa Teng's old residence?
¡·Process:Debate between pro and con
On the date of the debate,we all tried our best to defend our arguments. The content of the debate was as follows:
Con: I do not think it is necessary to preserve the place. It is useless anyway, since Teresa died already. There is no need to maintain her old residence. It is now utilized to store beef noodles. We are much better off if we tear down the building and establish a high rise on the same site instead. It is now an eye sore standing there.
Pro: The old residence is currently indeed messy and dirty. However,it may be re-opened as a tourist spot if we tidy it up and give it a new look. The residence can display relevant artifacts of Teresa Teng to visitors. By preserving Teresa Teng's old residence, we can introduce her legacy to many people. Or, we may explore the possibilities of relocating her old room to somewhere else.
Con: Teresa Teng rarely came back since she left Lujhou. Chances are she probably has felt embarrassed about how poor her family was when she was a child. Even she did not want it, so why the hell are we bothering to keep it? The place is so dirty now it stinks, because it is used as a storage room for beef noodles. It is going to be a huge task trying to clean up the mess. To save the troubles, we may as well tear down the building, since it is no use preserving it.?
Pro: We can add a great contribution to the cultural legacy to Lujhou if we can preserve Teresa Teng's old residence. In addition to her previous residence, we can enhance our tourism assets to show to the world by preserving Li Resident and Scholar's Mansions. We can tell the world that there was an international super star born in Luihou and this singer graduated from Lujhou Elementary School.
Con: If we demolish Teresa Teng's old residence, we can establish a memorial park for her instead. The beef noodle shop can find somewhere else for storage. In this way, we can kill two birds with one stone. We can rid this old building and preserve the cultural legacy left behind by Teresa Teng.
Pro: Instead of building a memorial park, we may as well relocate Teresa Teng¡¦s old residence to the site and allow the old residence to host all the artifacts. Or, we can combine the old residence with the beef noodle shop operations by displaying Teresa Teng¡¦s stuff in the shop. In that way, we can promote Teresa Teng to the guests to the shop. This is one of the ways to promote Teresa Teng. |

We told the story twice in class. The first time we told the story of Teresa Teng by referring to the drawings by the elderly students in the fifth and sixth grades; however, we stammered a lot during the process because there was no cue text on these drawings. We had to rely on Teacher Lai to make up most of our missing parts in the story. We felt really embarrassed about it.
However, with the completion of the drawing book and the previous experience of story telling with the teacher to other classes, we did a much better job for the second time. We felt a great sense of achievement and it was indeed a brilliant joy! |

Upon arriving the graveyard where Teresa Teng was buried, we met a group of Japanese tourists who came here to remember Teresa Teng. After our teachers communicated with them with basic Japanese, we realized that there were Taiwanese in this group. They also came to the graveyard because they like Teresa Teng. We also learned from them that Teresa Teng was a top singer in Japan and was hugely popular. We also introduced ourselves as the Teng¡¦s Investigation Team and our research subject ¡§Sweet Story of Teresa Teng¡¨.We took a couple of pictures with them. |

2/17 Interview with the mayor |
[Subject]Interview with the mayor
[Date]2.17
[Location]Town Hall
[Recorder]Pei-an
We were both excited and nervous. With our letter to the mayor and the scroll of the petition with signatures of the teachers and students who expressed their support, we went to the Town Hall to visit the mayor Li Wong. The mayor accepted our letter and petition. We explained our wish to preserve Teresa Teng¡¦s old residence and she expressed her support. However, the old residence is located on a site that was not supposed to have such construction according to the County Government¡¦s regulations, it seems inevitable that the building should be demolished. Therefore, it is likely that we preserve her old residence by relocating it. The mayor believed that we should preserve the old residence of Teresa Teng, as she was a super star when alive, it should be able to attract fans from overseas. This will boost the development of the tourism industry in Lujhou.
