A:Fangyuan Lighthouse
Wanggong Fishing Port was once busy and prosperous with many fishing vessels coming in. Fangyuan Lighthouse was set up on the east side of the port to ensure safety of those vessels when they enter or leave the port. Fangyuan Lighthouse, painted in black and white, is the youngest and the second highest lighthouse in Taiwan. With the decline of Wanggong Fishing Port, Fangyuan Lighthouse is not so important now. However, the surrounding mangrove area has attracted visitors here at present. The lighthouse has new visitors and would stand still as usual to guard the land.
The lighthouse is situated at the Wanggong Fishing Port in Fangyuan Township of Changhua County. The lighthouse was built in 1983 and painted in black and white vertical bands. This octagonal tower was made of reinforced concrete, and equipped with the fourth-class electric lamp, which generated 28,000 candlepower light. The lighthouse guided vessels with equal duration of five seconds between lightness and darkness every ten minutes. |
